Anyone struggling to eat out or from grocery stores? any clean eaters?

As someone who tried to get by with gull bladder issues and to self heal ...... until it EXPLODED.... I can say that since I did some research. There really is no "repair" all you can do is try not to pollute it so much and you can buy some time. Sounds like you bought all you can. Go ahead and...

    yummm.... sunny side eggs!

Beekissed.... I'm surprised the store bought ones look that good! The ones we get around here are so pale you can hardly tell the yolk from the white! Kinda a pastel yellow.:sick We are just getting feathers back now from many of the girls and I have 2 that stopped because the boys got too...

    yummm.... sunny side eggs!

I just had a sunny side up egg! And it was great! I know, not too exciting, but, it got me thinking why I started raising my own chickens! Every few months now days you hear about a recall of eggs or chicken due to one thing or another. I know I have happy healthy chickens and can eat raw eggs...

    Covered litter box

If you don't live where it gets real cold, it would probably work for nest boxes. I wouldn't trust that type of plastic in freezing cold though.

    Covered litter box

Walmart wanted $24.95 for a small covered litter box. They had some Plastic "Toy Chests" about the same size for $4.95. Guess what is now the new covered litter box! Cut a round hole in one end (used a plate as a guide and a solider iron) and a couple of slits on top. Works just as well!

Live in a comfortable environment with air conditioning

This post looks very "trollish" however..... For some of us, no matter how much we would like to live with "less" .... A/C for some of us with health issues is a matter of survival! I am sure pre- A/C I would have have died by now.

    Cleaning Cast Iron pans ?

Yea, me too. The first part I get, but with what (and how) do you do the plating? I thought the item had to be submerged to plate?

Cold room /root celler w/no basement?

Hummm....I wonder if making a "straw room" (out of bales) in the garage would work?

Has anyone here toilet trained a cat?

I had a cat that trained himself.... don't know why he decided to start either. Sorry, no help, but it can be done!

How are the taste of these meats canned up? Best ways to use them?

Wow... sounds like you got quite a plan! Well, I've never done rabbit or pork so no help there. I've never done roasts either! I hope you get some good replies because I'd be interested in answers too!:P I have done chicken, beef, venison and fish (and 1 rabbit). The only advice I can give is...

    SufficientSelf's Chicken Thread!!!

I noticed too the best time to "tame" a hen is when they're broody. As long as hey have their eggs they are happy. Petting and treats kinds reenforces the broody euphoria that they remember afterward. ;) Congrats on the hatch!

Cold room /root celler w/no basement?

Thanks! You gave me stuff to think about. But by all means keep the ideas coming! Ease of access is important because we're both around 60 and it's getting harder to dig and such. Hubby can get food grade 5 gal. buckets for free so that's a thought... just got to keep them cool without freezing.

Cold room /root celler w/no basement?

OK, here's the thing, we have a big garden and a fairly big ranch style house but no basement. just a dirt/gravel crawl space. I need a place to store root crops and squash over the winter. We have a large attached garage but it freezes in winter. We live in Wisconsin so snow and fluctuating...

    canned meat

I have some roosters past their prime I plan on canning. It's a great way to preserve and use any normally tough meat. If you have canned stew meat, chunky canned carrots, and potatoes, you can make a real quick stew! I also make a "mock salmon" using suckers. I even would get fair ribbons with...

    Affordable Rural Internet Access

I use Cricket... they have both phone and wireless services. It's done over cell phone towers so that would depend on what's available too. You can check your area @ Mycricket.com
