    Are we living our dream?

I enjoy making jelly, jams & preserves but, now almost no one around here eats them. Kids & grands all grown up. I've shared with friends, who always want more -- but, they don't want to return my jars! 😠 I want them back, even empty.... They're $$$ The sugar & fruit are bad, have you priced...

    WHAT ARE YOU CANNING TODAY?

That jam looks yummy! Nice color, too. No raspberry here 😞 but wild blackberries are ripening...another week & might be able to pick enough for a batch. I'm looking at all the elderberry I have canned, thinking some should be turned into jam. Those are ripening fast out there, too...

🔋 Can You Make It Through a Week Off-Grid? 🌿

Oh, yeah....can & have gone over a week without modern conveniences. Not necessarily fun but real doable. No electric is the most troublesome, but annoying. Not for light, I have oil & solar lamps for that! Can cook outside. Have home canned foods, ample water always available from wells &...

Having coffee -- lovely outside right now. 74* and a light breeze. Whole herd of goats in front field. Cat rubbing my leg, a rooster crowing away. Nice day so far. Blue sky, too...🥰

    What's for dinner?

I'm all about eats lately 🤪. Too much inside time! Today I spatchcocked a Cornish game bird and cooking in an electric skillet, lidded, slow. A baked sweet potato go with 🙂. There will be over half of bird for tomorrow....sandwich, or 🤷 Too hot to cook.

What did you do in your orchard today?

Seeing the orchard producing is so rewarding. I'd sure enjoy that ripe fruit....I know y'all will. Hard work pays off. Plus -- you love the growing & care parts.

Coffee's Ready, Come and Sit on the Porch

I know it's been longer but, seems like it wasn't that long we enjoyed calves births. 😁 Time flies! You've never gotten a red like the bull -- maybe 2025? Another hot day here. They say triple digits will stop about Wed, thanks to some rain in a "cold" front. A welcome relief.

    Food prices June 2021

@murphysranch I used to get damaged &/or close dated from a person who had a similar contract with a food distributor for restaurants. Got some awesome stuff!!! They sold co and new mgmt changed things. Anyway -- yeah, I fed animals from the produces, canned/froze meats, veggies, all kinds...

    Egg Hatching

They did fine today. Frequent checks for panting, etc. but young chicks like the heat. I'll cover the unit tonight....close off any dew, winds. It's staying in 78-80 range all night. It's an old guinea pig cage from when DGD was little. Close to 20 y/o and still a purpose.

    Food prices June 2021

Same here...late summer. I happen to have an abundance of applesauce I canned, plain. She loves it 😄 so, some of that can be used up. Plus leftover breads I make. No preservatives, so short life. And...boiled a dz eggs & fed back to hens yesterday. Would never do with store prices but...

    What's for dinner?

Aha!! Had to get through breakfast before any other meals. A bruschetta inspired one -- tomato, garlic pwdr, oregano, goat cheese & a drizzle of olive oil. Whole wheat bread on side & wipe the plate juices 👍

    Egg Hatching

The incubated hatch is 3 wks old in 2 days. This morning I kicked them out of the house! Back porch has their larger cage, just scrubbed & fresh bedded. It's warm enough & they're old enough. Been off light for almost a week. Soooo....surprise, surprise! They are just standing, looking...
