Sad...
Every Spring, residents living next to the rivers flowing into Lake Erie deal with flooding from the ice breaking up and forming ice dams. Listening to the flooded homeowners cry about this happening every few years makes me question their logic.
Riding the energy wave, not sure where it came from. The upper hallway walls I patched are now sanded down, wiped down, dust cleaned up, and ready to paint. Doing it between the downtime with the canning process. Go figure
Oh my goodness. The baked bean recipe (from Ball) where I substituted the molasses with the bourbon infused sorghum was awesome as I was jarring it up. Can't wait to taste it after it sits on the shelf for a bit. No alcohol taste, more like caramelized
Canner round 2 is coming up to...
We now have quite the group of hummingbird visitors to both the flowers and the feeders (yeah, we bought a second one). Lolol
It's fun watching them.
I was filling one feeder this morning and a ruby throat nearly landed on my shoulder. He was all "come on dude, get that buffet set up."...
Unfortunately, chicken was not on sale. Down to about 10 pints left in the larder. This exercise will add back in about 20 pints. Since I have the canner out, beans were an obvious choice
~15 pounds of chicken cut up and ready to load up and run through the canner. 3 batches of baked beans (1 of which is with the bourbon infused sorghum) baking in the oven. Everything prepped before 10 am this morning.
12+ inches of rain in a specific area, topography funneled all of that rain down that river. 1990 in Shadyside Ohio, a rain storm parked in a location and caused a flash flood killing 26.
The unfortunate thing is the rain is often mi
les and miles away upstream in the watershed and the...
5 hours outside this morning after my wall patching gig. Did some string trimming (3 charges of the battery), herbicide application on the driveway spots i missed last weekend ( also including the nasty poison ivy cluster climbing one of the power poles), filled in and seeded a low spot near the...
No produce auctions close here, either, or at least ones on the weekend so I don't have to take a day off from work.
I do negotiate bulk deals with the local farmers at the weekly market when I can get there in time
Patched the dings in the upstairs hallway walls this morning while sipping coffee. Going to try finish painting both the upstairs and downstairs hallways this month. After that, we can go through the boxes of picture frames and get some hung up.
Heading outside for garage puttering and some...
Mostly 'A's, but 5 N/As. Having a generator ready to go addresses 5 of the 10.
For what to do, depends on the overall situation. Weather conditions, cause of the outage.
A big part of being self-sufficient is adapting on the fly. For instance, my approach to food use would depend on the...
Almost have the hay baled (all of the yard mowed once). Still soggy ground where the wet weather stream runs. Got the rest of the herbicide applied to the driveway. Ran a whole tank of fuel through the tractor. 4+ hours this morning before the heat got to me.
Did some trim painting...
Ran a carload of cardboard to the township recycling center. Greeted by a load of trash dumped. The village where we used to live canceled their recycling program because morons were just dumping all trash in the containers. This is why we can't have nice things, I guess.
