dug a trench in a garden, then went down the middle of it another shovel deeper to help break up the hardpan layer that is down there from eons of farming compaction and no deep ripping at all ever that i've seen any evidence of, oh and they never seemed to grow cover crops either.
whenever...
as far as i know we only had school lunches subsidized (we paid half rate) for a year, but then Mom got enough work and i was mowing lawns and that was that.
since then i've paid directly and indirectly to the state to more than compensate them for that measly amount - my pay at the university...
it's not the bugs i'd worry about as much as the hurricanes and being nearly at sea level all over the place and the lack of pretty much most of what i'd care about doing and ... i've been there and would love it if i could live about 50ft underwater in a bunch of big glass domes and grow beans...
well, i've changed my mind, we have a bit of rain chance and 40mph winds coming at us and i sure am not going to be out there fighting the wind while getting a garden cleaned up as it will all end up blowing into places where i've already finished. tomorrow is supposed to be calmer - i can save...
another day on beautiful planet erf. :)
that's what i'm normally wearing around here too in the warmer times of the season. it has been cooler lately that i'm able to wear longer pants and not have to bother with the sweatband.
:)
i gotta get outside today too even if it might be chances...
the dreaded word SN*W has started showing up in our forecasts so even if there are chances of rain for today i should try to get out for at least an hour here or there and see if i can get more gardening in...
yesterday when making split pea soup (with ham, celery, onions, tomato chunks, and carrots) Mom was trying to get the water to heat up as fast as possible with the two 3 gallon stainless steel pans that we use the most. one of them had a funny issue with the bottom where it bubbled/bent down...
very simple here, cheese, crackers, hot sauce. we cooked yesterday some split pea and ham soup and that was good and we'll be having that tomorrow for lunch with cole slaw, biscuits and stuffed potatoes.
yesterday what beans i could find in there that looked interesting and in good enough condition to pick were picked.
today a little rain this morning, windy and i wasn't sure what i would do outside.
i did have some food scraps to bury and a garden i wanted to scrape because there was some...
wow! quite a challenge you've put for yourself. :) i hope it does help you get some strength back.
i'm definitely in the "If you rest you rust." category of people. yes, some days you do need to take a break, but too much of a break will not help.
glad to hear from you again. :)
we see very few turtles around here and to me that is ok for the snapping turtles which can get really big and be pretty hard to deal with, but there is a smaller species called painted turtles which are very pretty and ok to have around that i would like to see more of... just that there's no...
i used to do some PT stretches and exercises twice a day for my back but in recent years with regular gardening i've not kept up that habit, and in the winter months i should get back to at least once a day just to get the body moving and the back some exercise since that is how it is primarily...
on to a new garden today to put up, i'm so excited! well, ok, i'm mildly enthused but the happy part will be going through and picking any dry beans that remain for me to harvest that i've missed up to this point or have finished up since the last time i went through picking. since there are...
i needed a nap this morning and woke up a bit ago and it was a good nap indeed because i got some dreaming in and was laughing at it because it was a silly dream about Mom singing some song wrong and me trying to get her to sing the right lyrics and of course she wasn't going to comply with...
what kind of snake is that one? :)
when i used to work at the family business we had a long (about 10-12ft) solid steel pronger for moving rolls of carpetting with the forklift. that was fun to do. :) my cousin managed to almost put it through the double walls of the warehouse back in the...
next two days of nice enough weather in the forecast so i will be able to finish up the current garden and start on the next one and then a day or two of rains so i can recover, rest up and shell beans out and then back at it again after. it is fine with me to work around the weather as long as...
