Our new veg plot in Japan

Thanks guys. Yep, it's almost right next to the other plot. The soil looks very good on this one, though it was rotovated as appose to hand weeded, so not quite so good on the weed front. We also got another plot which I planted Nozawana on today, I'll get a pic up soon, It's not quite so...

We were offered this piece of land to use the other week. Needless to say, we took it. Now sowed with Soba.

Our new veg plot in Japan

Very nice! The ones we have are cropping incredibly well, but the larger varieties, which are enormous, lack flavour. Will be growing centiflor types next year as well.

Our new veg plot in Japan

Unfortunately we were too late to grow any from seed this year, so we have a few different varieties from the local garden centre, but nothing really exciting. Looking forward to San marzano next year.

Our new veg plot in Japan

We're very lucky to have inherited such good soil, though I think it needs a little correction. How do you deal with it? Raised beds??

Our new veg plot in Japan

Thanks for the positive comments. I'd highly recommend the beans Wannabefree, there an open pollinated variety called 'cosse violette', they are cropping extremely well and have stood up well to the bugs.

Our new veg plot in Japan

So, finally an update. As you can see things are starting to come on. Still a little behind our neighbours, but have been able to stop buying veg, and within the next couple of weeks should have more than we can eat ourselves. At the moment we're cropping cucumbers, peppers, aubergine...

Can anyone help identify this greedy bug?

Thanks for the interest. We've been getting rid of them (and the grubs) as we find them and using various home made organic sprays, which seems to have solved the problem, touch wood. I think it was largely a problem as the plot hadn't been used for a while and had become over run with weeds...

Bugs eating my Cucs & Squash

Similar problem here. We had success with soapy water and also added some home made EM, a bit of chilli, garlic and tobacco wont harm either. Also watering with EM to build up the soil and make plants more resistant. Good luck
