Ham hocks (from the 1/2 pig we bought): $4
Pinto beans: $1
Habanero sauce (home made): $1
Bacon ends: $1

For $7 I filled the crock pot. I had a couple of bowls. Hubby had some. Then we brought a bunch to a friend's house for pot luck. We ate more, they LOVED them. We left them a few servings so they could have them in their brown bag lunches.

I am so making this again :D

hmmm well I bought a 1/2 steer from my sister this fall, for $2.20/# so I have made alot of beef meals since then, examples:

2 # hamburger for 8 hamburgers, ($4.40)
wheat bread from discount store, around $1.20/loaf
plus cheese $2.00
discount french fries, $2.00 a bag (could save more $ if made my own)
total: $9.60, and I usually have 2 or 3 cheeseburgers leftover for later

2 # roast ($4.40)
garlic and onions from my garden.....cost last year of sets
10 small red potatoes, around $2.00
loaf of wheat bread, $1.20 for bread and butter
so around $7.60 plus the onions and garlic, and A-1 sauce,
PLUS this a.m. for lunch I am making beef and noodles, got brave and made egg noodles last night, so 2nd meal with the leftover beef plus flour, 2 eggs, milk and butter, YUMMY!!

I don't think I can go back to the crap meat you buy from store, grass fed with no hormones tastes great!!
