Agreed. The fact that the photo showed A BABY CHICKEN, while the boy reportedly hatched a duck egg makes the entire article suspect. Granted, there are plenty of "Trader Joe" eggs that are hatched from a carton that is labeled "fertile eggs". But, seriously, if they can't report the news accurately, then it's NOT NEWS.
I've been tempted for awhile to fire up my little incubator and cook some of the duck eggs I see for sale at our local butchery... Just to see what happens
I've only raised ducks once. My 2 Mallard hens were visited by the neighbor's Pekin Drake. I loved that summer. It was a joy to watch the ducks working over the lawn, muttering little ducky secrets. Hubby and I were convinced that they were gossiping about us. Every now and then, they'd pause to shake the long gobs of duck slime off their beaks, then go back at their dibbling. The 2 girls shared a nest and hatched 24 babies.
Ahh, you guys I missed that completely... Well, I just emailed them and pointed out their errors and also said that:
"Also, quoting your article here: "After three days of shining a torch on to the egg shells, Atkins was reportedly shocked to see a beating heart and the chick hatch." In that case the egg must have been a balut egg as ducklings take roughly 28 days to incubate and some even longer."
