I think you guys are missing the point. This isn't about whether or not you should be taking the pills, but about what this guy based this on. I can tell you right now that there is no way I could stand w/my arms out for very long w/out my arms getting tired and dropping-whether I'm holding something in my hand or not. But, that's all I'm going to say.
No Deb your point was clear. But if you were young and fit your arms would not drop. One of my old teachers used to use it for punishment and us boys that thought we were tough would prove it by standing there with a textbook in hand until the bell rang, drop it and swagger out of the classroom.

GD, this wasn't my post to begin with. Nor was it about how young and how fit they were. But like I said, I'm not saying more. I can see this thread possibly getting nasty, and I don't want any part of that.

Many of the more common ailments can be controlled by diet, exercise and lifestyle....most pills for health maintenance are a crutch not a cure. Doctors get quite a few perks to prescribe this or that med...I've partaken of many of those perks while working in a doctor's office.

I can sympathize with the doctors to a certain degree...how many people would return to a doctor who told them to get off their butts, stop watching TV and take a walk, stop eating foods loaded with chemicals and stop smoking/drinking/stressing...and start living on purpose? Not many. Well I did! That ia what I liked about him. I even actually follow SOME of that advise, Mine said a little alcohol was great for stress so I started drinking only one drink/day after 15 years of being a tea totaler. heck I bought my hobby farm because of his advise. I got dizzy on the walks he advised. He was talking of pulling my drivers permit because of it. I looked him square in the eye and told him I could quit the walks if he advised but I never got dizzy sitting down and I promise I WILL NEVER DRIVE STANDING UP! The SOB won't let me have a handycaped parking pass because 'the walk is good for me'. I tell him when I fall and break my hip I am going to haunt him for the rest of his life, He is younger

So the doc goes with the flow...he gives the pills because that is what the people want. He gives certain brands of pills because it gets him free lunches,Now days lunch is usually brought in for the whole office staff free samples,To be given away to patients, some of which can't afford meds money,Cash is outlawed now vacations,Educational Classes on those cruize ships big game hunts, etc. He does both these things because he is in the profession to make money, not help people...but he can still appear to be helping people by giving the pills, ordering the tests and expensive procedures and lining the pockets of his fellow doctors/specialists.We fight about brands a lot, I worked for big Pharma so I get anything made by my company for free (beats the heck out of Medicare part D) so I have to comvince him that my brands are good AND not write them for generics (which I have to pay full price for.)
He gets repeat business due to the pills and the continued poor health of the patient as they slowly deteriorate over the years. It's a win/win situation, really...just not for the patient.

I think Denim Deb hit the nail on the head. All I was pointing out was that some people are actually stupid enough to think that a quack farmer "doc" could possibly know that your pills are good or not by having you hold the pill bottle in your hand. Even if he WAS wearing a tin foil hat. :) Actually I like the horn rim glasses with the big nose and mustache better. This thread had nothing to do with meds, doctors, or insurance - just silly people who are gullible.

Sorry I brought it up. I just thought it was amusing.

I used to go to a chiro who used TBM techniques (total body modification). Basically modern chiropractors want to work on your back or neck. The TBM philosophy encompasses the entire body. They use muscle testing (similar to acupuncture or acupressure to determine where energy pathways are not aligned. This chiropractor was able to work with my entire body rather than just my neck and spine.

Now I'm not saying that this Amish guy is legitimate, but if he is actually doing TBM correctly, it does really seem like hocus pocus unless you have experienced it. The arm thing is one of the most common ways they can do the muscle testing.

Boog, that is kinda funny...in a sad way. *sigh* I thought gullibility was supposed to fade with life experience. You WOULD think educated older people would have more sense than that. I feel for our older crowd in this world. There is always some jerk wanting to take advantage, and at that price per visit...that farmer should be ashamed, but I'd bet he's laughing all the way to the bank instead.
