I have my turnips, and I am really wanting to try making some whipped turnips. I was thinking of making them like I would mashed potatoes?

I would appreciate any help here!

Thanks!

I've never made whipped turnips, but I do it all the time with cauliflower.

Try boiling the turnips in chicken broth until tender enough to mash. Add butter & salt to taste. :idunno

That's what I would do to start off with, punkin. Then I would add sour cream and cheese to make it extra delicious! (and fresh parsley and chives)

Can you cook turnips in the microwave (like you would potatoes?) Seems like it would prevent them from absorbing too much water.

I would think so. Just chop them up and add dots of butter. I don't think I like cooked turnips, but you are making me want to try them.

OK, I found a recipe for whipped turnips, found some recipes for other things, too LOL I googled turnips....well...now I got two things I want to try!

Whipped Turnips
1 pounds White turnips or rutabagas
teaspoon Salt
2 To 3 T ha!f-and-hatf
1 teaspoon Butter

Peel turnips; cut into one-inch cubes. Place in a medium saucepan; cover with water and bring to boiling. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, until tender-about 15 minutes. 2. Drain turnips very well. Add salt, cream, and butter. Beat with a hand electric beater until smooth and fluffy. Serve immediately.

Acorn Squash With Whipped Turnips

Step1Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Place squash, skin side up, in a shallow baking pan, add 1/2 inch water and cover tightly with aluminum foil. Bake 25 to 35 minutes or until squash is tender.
Step2Meanwhile, place the turnips in a saucepan. Add water to cover and the bay leaf and salt. Heat to boiling over high heat. Reduce the heat to medium and cook for 15 minutes.
Step3Add the potatoes, cover and cook until the vegetables are tender, 15 to 20 minutes longer.
Step4Meanwhile, melt the butter in a small skillet over medium heat. Add the shallot, nutmeg and pepper. Cook, stirring frequently, 3 to 5 minutes, until tender.
Step5Drain the turnips and potatoes. Discard the bay leaf.
Step6Use an electric mixer and a large bowl and beat the turnips, potatoes, shallot mixture and cream until well combined.
Step7Cool the baked squash about 5 minutes or until it's easy to handle. Turn each cavity up and sprinkle with brown sugar. Fill the cavity of each with the turnip mixture.
Step8Heat the broiler. Broil the squash, 3 inches from the heat, until the whipped turnips start to brown, about 2 to 3 minutes.
Step9Arrange the squash on a serving plate and sprinkle with paprika. Serve immediately.

I think I might try both recipes!

I think I'm going to try those, especially the puffs. I always just eat mine raw with salt.
