Nice, BayMule, thanks for the pictures! That does look pretty simple. Ultimately I'd like something movable, but right now I don't think that will be an issue or worth fussing with. We don't own the place, so just to have some chickens to get started with would be helpful.
So very interesting on the fermented feed! I'll have to do more research, I'm all about saving money and having happier healthier birds! I'll have to tell my friend as she could use the money savings, and the increased egg production. I guess you could move the buckets somewhere warm in winter if you had to, it would mean hauling feed, but if it keeps the production higher through the colder months that's a good thing too!

Imagine a cold frame being put together for my northern friends to keep their mash warm enough to ferment.
Well, it will be a few days before I need to put some grain to soak because the birds are still munching on the unbelievable amount of grain DD8 threw in the coop. I'm picking up a lot of eggs though.
Well, I found a really big piece of hardware cloth in the shed, which I think I can use as a bottom for a rabbit cage, big enough for 6 rabbits. Maybe 4 adults and 2 for bunnies. I was just trying to figure out if I should frame something up for support, if if it will support itself, with wire alone. My plan is to hang from rafters in the barn. I am hoping if I can make the thing and actually have it hanging equally from the sides and middle, that it is supported enough, even without a wooden foundation. I can't seem to find wire cutters, but I'm sure I will very soon.
DH's cousin just came over to look at DS's old truck. He wants a vehicle that he won't have to worry about a note for. DS wants about $250 for it. I, of course, want much more for my suburban, which I'm not even excited to sell it, but I might.
Its dark and the kids are playing with the neighbor's kids and I hate it when they screaming their lungs out. I am almost certain someone is being murdered. I just wasn't raised like that.
I know its late and I guess I am a bit down tonight, so I think I might go find that wire cutter and play a while. Anything farm related, seems to give me a boost.

I love everything about working on our little farm. If I don't have dirt on me somewhere....... something is wrong.

The machine fabric will not be strong enough to hold up a rabbit if it is not supported about every foot or so. To help your rabbits not get sores on their feet from living on wire, put a single floor tile in the cage for them to sit on. It will also help keep them cooler in summer.
