BeccaOH: Update of just STUFF

There is a local family and a local diner that decorate their trees for each holiday; both are artificial trees. At the diner last week, the tree was covered in small multi-colored plastic eggs and colorful garland.

I guess that way you don't have to worry about taking it down and putting it back up every year?! Not for me thanks.....

I've thought of doing that!

I've had a head cold all week. Made a quick trip to TN for work Tues.-Wed., and the flying didn't help my ears any. I'm still all stuffed up.

More rain coming! My poultry runs are still muddy. Still can't till the garden. The grass is getting so high in spots that I may start losing ducks when I let them free range.

On the good side, though, my first hatchlings of the year are out. I have 13 Marans and 4 Ameruacana. Soon I hope to have ducklings and goslings. A goose egg was really rocking and rolling this morning, though still not pipped.

It is Holy Week, but it really hasn't felt like it for me. For the first time in my long history with this company, they didn't give us Good Friday as a holiday. I've just been too busy (and too sick) to think about Easter. My soul could really use some down time and time to reflect on my Savior. I hope others are having a better week. May your Easter bring rest and reflection to you and yours.

Finally mowed the grass on Saturday. It was so long and heavy that it took a lot of time and gas. Really kicked up my sinuses, so I left a piece for Sunday afternoon -- and then it rained AGAIN. The poultry really loved the grass clippings, but when I let the one pen out to free range, they went right into the neighbor's uncut field.

The sinus thing is really driving me nuts today. Thick drainage down my throat is choking me.

On another front, I've always got something hatching these days. Hatched Wheaten Marans over the weekend and now have goslings hatching today. I'm running out of brooder space. I really need to sell what I know I cannot keep. And -- I really need to stop buying and swapping eggs on BYC.

It seems like my old upright freezer is on its last leg. The door seal is no longer holding. Having to prop it closed. I guess it is nearly 30 years old, so I suppose it has done its job. I really can't live without a freezer as we love things like fresh frozen corn, berries, broccoli, and the like. I also freeze lunch-size servings of soups. So I guess I'll be freezer shopping soon. Always something to take the money.

Becca, can you replace the seal and get some more time on that freezer? I know on my old Kelvinator a new seal gave us about 4 or 5 more years of use out of it.

Good luck deciding what to keep! I know that is a hard decision to make.


We're still raining here. I heard we got over 70 inches of precipatation in April. blah!! I need some sun too.

E and I are working on fixing up the old coop behind Blessings barn this evening (roof is good, sidewalls need fixed/predator proofed) and we have plans to start another small coop when we're done re-vamping the old one...........

IF we sell the pair of Pilgrims - another pen for chickens...........

Ooo, trade Pilgrims for BOs? LOL Not really. A goose pair in each yard to ward of predators might be good for me, but this "falling in love" cross breed and not having pure eggs is a bummer for me with the two pairs I currently have. Got to get new pasture done. It's Dan's goal to help me this weekend, but I need to pick up more fencing and posts and figure out a couple gates.

A gosling and a call (Foley) hatched yesterday. Should have more calls and Hookbills soon. Have the SF and NN in the Dickey hatcher tray. I heard a peep in there this morning, but I didn't have time to open it all up to see what was going on. :/ That's why I hate that for a hatcher, but I didn't have space enough in the LG hatcher.

Had a BR hen get ganged up on by my 2 roos last evening and now she can hardly use her right leg.

Feels like SUMMER today.

I just don't know if I should keep the pilgrims. I never have luck with geese - they NEVER hatch babies for me

I could totally go for a trade....Pilgrims for Orloffs?
