Bee~ Journal of then...

I agree on the NH. I have had them several times and MUCH prefer them to RIR - better calmer personality.

I HAVE eaten the NH as stew hens as well - they taste pretty darn good to me!:drool

Plenty of meat, nicely fat and the flavor only a mature hen can have.

I also get the cartons from egg cartons . com - great value for the money.

I love that area. It looks just like the area I used to live for a few years called "Elkin NC". Not much there but, I loved it. The long commutes I did not. I missed my family as well.

DD is having a wonderful pregnancy, thanks for asking! She is so much better pregnant...too bad she isn't married, I'd advise her hubby to keep her barefoot and preggo her whole life lol! She just shines, and is so happy all the time
At least that is good news!!! You know, its kind of weird, but all the young gals around here seem to have these very difficult pregnancies that result in bedrest and repeated trips to the ER, meds to keep them from going into premature labor, etc. It seemed more simple when I was having babies.....I hardly knew anyone who was having trouble!

My pregnancies were wonderful! Well, until the delivery...which were pretty painful and nasty, but such is life!

Yes, Ann, I have ordered from eggcarton.com before and was quite pleased with the product. The shipping prices went up, though, which is going on everywhere. If I sell eggs in each carton, though, I will have made $500. That's my goal, to sell 250 cartons of eggs this spring and summer...at least! But preferably more! :)

Well, got the post sunk for my little barn/lean-to project today! It was a glorious 70 and sunny today and I was soaking it all up! Went and bought the lumber after work, came home and rousted out the boys and got a good bit done before sundown.

I got to rake a few limbs out of the yard, level off a few humps and fill a few holes, clean out the coop~took two minutes now that I'm raking out poops every other day, commune with the hounds and chickens, clean out the tool shed and soak up the rays.

The boys finished up with a little game of football, got dirty and had fun and we all celebrated with their favorite meal! AND I didn't have to cook it!!! :weee

I love it when a plan comes together!

Bee, sounds like you had a great day. Today, Saturday is supposed to be warm again...70ish. DH and I are planning to take out the Mulberry tree thats leaning pretty bad where the sheep pen will be. I really hate that they will be loseing a great amount of shade...but there are a few other spots for shade in there. We are getting 2 ewes, one possibly bred...and later a ram. Oh, did I tell ya, they are free!?? :D

Bee, after reading your dumpster diving comments, which were nothing less than a hoot :lau I was wondering if you were diving to get supplies for your new barn build?

I am about to build my first coop from wood harvested from my own land, it cost me $70.00 dollars to have it cut at the sawmill. I now have enough wood to build 3 coops. So I was wondering if you could suggest to me where I can maybe find a window for it?????

Go to your local junkyard! Ask if they have any old campers or truck caps that might have come in with a truck and use the windows from that! That's what I am going to be installing into my coops this year, sliding windows with screens from an old truck cap.

Sure can! Call up any of your local window companies...they remove old windows and replace new, and usually just dump the old ones. Get in good with them and you may find yourself with a steady supply for any amount of projects.

OR...you could come over to my place~I just picked up some really sturdy, wood framed windows out of the trash next to my office building. And a lovely old screen door! I have no idea for what I will use these items but I'm sure I will cook up some idea!
