Just made my first batch of beeswax lotion & it was shockingly easy! The final product has solidified a little more than I would like. Can I just melt it down and add more oil? Or do I just need to adjust the recipe on my next batch?

You are taking a huge risk by trying to re-do it....I'd call it cream, put it into jars instead, and just use less wax next time. What was your recipe?

Isn't it fun to discover that you can make something faster than you can get to the store and buy it? :p

A friend of mine makes beeswax products. She calls her lotion a lotion bar. It's like a bar of soap, and you hold it and rub it on your skin. I love it. Is yours that solid?

Mine is softer than a bar, but more solid than a lotion. It melts pretty quickly when you take it out of the jar. My recipe:
4 oz. almond oil
1 oz beeswax
2 oz water
10 drops Vit E oil
10 drops essential oil

I actually think the problem was with the water. I had a hard time getting it to join w/the oil & wax, and I think I lost some by the time I figured out how to get it to mix in. I was really reluctant to use my nice blender, but I remembered I have a $10 stick blender that worked like a charm!

My next question - how do you clean up your tools? That blender still has kind of a residue on it even after cleaning it w/soap & water.

That is a high percentage of wax.....you can clean you tools with VERY hot water and Dawn dish soap. Blend that a few times until it is clean.

Cool on your first lotion (cream)!!! :woot

A lotion that you might use in a pump bottle....very gloppy....might have NO beeswax. You can thicken it up from there....so it all depends on how firm you want it to be. Adding even more beeswax makes a lip balm that can be used in a stick-type container or a small container that you apply with a fingertip.

I believe Susun Weed always recommended 1 cup oil to one oz beeswax. I think that's what I used with my sage and burdock salves.. But it's been a while so I can't be sure.
I've never heard about using water but what do I know? :p
