Britesea - Living the good life in rural Oregon

I've seen the avocado deviled egg recipe before. try them and let us know what you think.

So tired. This is the last week of my physical therapy, and they are really going for the "physical" part of it. Tomorrow is the last day *whew*
I drank tons of water yesterday and more today, trying to flush the toxins from exercising out of my body.

Today I mainly caught up on dishes and laundry. Especially laundry as DH had no clean underwear left and I only had one. And work clothes- he didn't have enough shirts to make it to the weekend.

Bottled up the kombucha today; I added a bit of grape juice to it (about 20% juice to 80% kombucha) and capped the bottles. I'll let them work on the counter until Friday night, and then they can go into the refrigerator.

Dinner was a quickie-- I sauteed some chicken tenderloins with taco seasoning and added them to a salad of romaine lettuce, ripe pear chunks, and homemade blue cheese dressing.

It's better to realize you need to do laundry when you still have 1 of something clean than to realize you don't have any clean to put on! Been there, done that.

Quickie supper sounds great! I have a chicken taco seasoning mix from Penzeys Spices that I keep on hand for just that reason - last minute supper. I want to try to replicate that mix as it is so good. It has more oregano and less chili powder than taco seasoning.
I try to stay ahead of the laundry, but usually end up at the one left stage anyway. I need to work harder on DH to let me know when he starts getting low on clothes. At 9:00 pm is not the time to tell me he is out of underwear...at least if he had one left I could wait until the next day. Too often I throw a load of laundry in before bed and then in the morning switch it to the dryer before I dash out the door at 4:30 am. It will be dry by the time he gets up at 5:30 to get ready for work.

Hmm those veggies sound yummo! Can't wait for our hens to start laying again!
Ugh laundry :(

My hubby is known for telling me in the morning that he wants a certain shirt-and it's not clean! I keep telling him that I need to know a day ahead of time, but it doesn't always sink in.

We don't have a dryer, so it's imperative that I learn early enough in the day to allow for line drying. In the winter it's even worse-- if it's cold and humid it can take 24 hours to dry. Hopefully it will get easier when we have a wood stove as that is dry heat.

And I thought it was humid around here! The winter is about the only time I'll use my dryer. I try to schedule my laundry around the weather. I don't think hubby realizes how much we save on electricity by not using it.

Normally it's not very humid- we are considered high desert. But we do have several lakes and a river in the area and that makes things a little different; it's normally somewhere around 30%. Mainly, in the winter we'll be more humid if it's snowing or raining- I don't keep my house very warm (around 65F) and that makes the laundry take a bit longer to dry.

The Produce Connection is heating up; I came home with about 50 lbs of produce yesterday. We had another big bag of cucumbers (slicers), 6 ears of super sweet corn, 3 cantaloupes and a watermelon, 10 lbs of potatoes, 4 heads of broccoli, and a big bag of pears. I managed to cut and freeze the last of the onions I got last week, and I vacuum sealed some frozen watermelon cubes for making sorbet or agua fresca later. Now I need to work on freezing the corn and broccoli, dehydrate the potatoes and pears (although I'm thinking of saving some out to make pear butter), and then I want to freeze some of the cantaloupe as a sorbet (sorbets are rapidly becoming my go-to dessert, lol). I'm still looking for ideas to use up all the cucumbers though. I found a baked cucumber dish that actually sounds like it might taste good, and of course they are delicious in all kinds of salads, refrigerator pickles, and I can make a very refreshing agua fresca with them. I found directions for dehydrating them, but no idea of what to do with them after that?

Sounds like you're going to be busy!
