well, if we're counting BYC people, too, then my list is much much longer! :hide

I've met from BYC:

Mrs. Turbo and her husband (Foley's Waterfowl)
BuffBeauty
Turtleblossom
another one who's name I forget but should remember since she buys BLRW from me every year.
Big Medicine
6littlechickies (and her husband)
SouthernChick (whom I'd never do business with again! RUN RUN RUN)

and several others because we had a huge BYC meet up at Ohio Nationals two years in a row - and I'm a little sad that I don't think we're going to Ohio Nationals this year :(

I may have her username slightly wrong, I'd have to go look - but it was definitely NOT YOU. BeccaOh and I drove to this woman's house - way South of Columbus, Oh - and I traded Black Copper Marans chicks for Blue Laced Red Wyandotte chicks....even though my gut was telling me to run far. far. far. away. My chickens turned out alright, but BeccaOh bought some "high quality breeder stock" Welsummer chicks - that grew out to NOT be that!

And her set up was just well it was just horrible!

oh that stinks Becca took a hit on that.

yea isn't it rough when you go to someone's farm and it is nasty. something just turns my gut when I see so many things done 'just wrong' etc...things I would never do on my spread.....I compare all the time lol

at least you know to run now :p

QA: Curious ... what was bad about it? I'm always looking for ways to improve mine.
She had small dog crates stacked floor to ceiling, and a pair of chickens or up to 4 chickens in each crate. They were filthy dirty, and the waterers/feeders were empty. These were her "breeding pens". :(

Those birds had no access to dust baths or grass.

On top of that, she had 1 pair of Wheaten Marans - 1 pair - and was selling eggs 8 at a time to ship out. That means people were paying top dollar for week old eggs for hatching. BIG NO NO.

Then the chickens she was trading to me seemed underfed. They were really thin. I fattened them up though. One pullet I sold as a layer hen to a local lady because her lacing was non-existant and then I sold another hen later that year. I have one girl left from that trade, lost my roo to predators this spring.

I was very happy to get birds from Foley's last fall.

eta: add to that she was advertising quality Welsummer chicks, Maran Chicks, etc and selling them for top dollar and half the chicks were mixed. Welsummers DO NOT have Willow legs!

And anyone else in Denver!
I have a 3 hour layover in Denver on Wednesday, if no changes occur to my itinerary! I get there around 3pm...
Did this happen? Are there more pictures? Will we ever know?!!?

I couldn't make it and abi was working. We are both bummed. Farmer Jamie will be in our area this week though. I think he is meeting abi for coffee and stopping by my shop on Friday.
