Yeah, locking them in for a day is a good idea. Maybe they have been laying somewhere else.

That may be aproblem. Its not drought but maybe just bad weather in general. Its rained all fall.......I hadnt thought of that.

Could be, I did today and got 9 but was thinking that maybe they held them. I let them out at 3. But tomorrow it will be all day.

I was told that if they don't have lots of fresh water, their laying would drop off. :hu

I honestly think your problem is light based. Try running an extension out there with a light bulb on a timer. But I also hear you on the buff orps...I had them too and they were not worth having. They eat way to much and lay way too little. Most of the bigger breeds seem to be that way. I like barred rocks the best so far for a dual purpose breed.
