Coffee's Ready, Come and Sit on the Porch

We had a toad choker come through. That's when it rains so much it would choke a toad. And our road is flooded again, water running over the road about a foot deep. Not near a bad as when we got 12 inches of rain early this spring though, but still.

What,,, how did it get in where it is???
Sciencetific stuff…

Digger Crayfish (Fallicambarus fodiens)
it’s a primary burrowing crayfish species that spends most of its life below ground. It is found across eastern and southern Illinois, but given its burrowing behavior, it is only occasionally encountered. The species digs a complex system of tunnels and chambers in low lying regions.

We have some in the stream here. Used to catch them in the Umatilla River in eastern Oregon.

Hubby laughed at there being enough water for them to move in
When tank was a pup he brought me this one out of the front yard. He has a soft mouth and didn't hurt it, It was the biggest one i've see yet. They mainly come out at night. But you can also see them during the day in early spring. I think they come out of the ground to mate in the early spring, that's why you see them during the day. Big momma mud bug was not at all happy. We left her go to do what mud bugs do.

I had to go look up the regulation for them. 10 lbs in shell for the native signal crayfish. 3 1/4 size. No females with eggs or babies.

No daily limit, sex, or size restriction for non-native but they must be dispatched before leaving the stream side. The invasives are pushing out the natives.

Fog here, too. Rains pretty much every day or two, over past 2 weeks. Thankfully, not heavy stuff like TX & IL. Just enough to keep things wet!!! Wet enough to not be able to do a lot -- and enough to get your pant legs all wet because you can't mow. Heat & humidity is uncomfortable. Inside is feeling like a prison.🥴 Pastures are growing -- a plus -- but water filled forage isn't satisfying for the animals. Feed hay...$ Farmers & crops up & down with weather & ability to work fields. Anxiety growing well with these weather patterns 😳 It will show in prices in 6 months.
