I volunteered for the Rim Fire and then a couple of years later for the Butte Fire.

The Red Cross was impossible to work with. They wanted a background check done on me first. REALLY?? The fire is ongoing, hundreds by the day are evacuating to the Fair Grounds and you want a background check? I joined another group.

For the Butte Fire, I joined a cooking group, and made huge meals in my kitchen and then delivered them to a huge kitchen which was feeding evacuees.

Sometimes it takes just "walking in" or "showing up" to see if someone will snag you up!

My son tried that yesterday. He got turned around by a sheriff's deputy. I understand keeping degeneratives away. But I don't understand turning away someone who just wants to help.

I suspect they are still in the assessment stages. Many of those homes were just gone. Insurance adjusters need to see & process claims. Utilities need their crews to come in at once, for safety. It didn't look like there was a town structure but, maybe just not in the drone footage. Really can't "do" much until prelims happen. So very sad but without control, with so much area and numbers, I can see why they must limit access.

I'm sure it is painful for you seeing need but, most of the people are elsewhere for now -- no home there! Prayers.

It's very frustrating, I get it. Please understand it's for your safety too. A number of years around up north of us, some Amish men showed up to help clear a main road after a bad storm blew through. They started up cutting up trees and dragging them off of the road. Unfortunately, there was a live powerline they tried to move off to the side. The first responder workload just got heavier.

Suggestion? Get some folks together to assemble some "care bags". OTC meds, stuff to keep kiddos occupied, general "comfort" items. Do partner with a local church. I watched the TN/NC flooding horror stories post event. Broke my heart

It is a cold 43 , I hope the wind isnt like it was yesterday. We are not getting out of the 50's today,

Sunshine. Low 70s later. We were down to 52 this morning but, was ok with that. Windows open a little to cool house -- free AC -- was 72 inside at get up. Nice but, coolish.

Working every day this week, so not much else gets done beyond basics....feed/water. All tubs cleaned out & refilled late yesterday. Last preg goat kidded. Things going smoothly. Incubator still good. All seems ok what could go wrong?

We didn't sleep but about 4 hrs last night. We were under tornado warning again and some very strong storms rolled through. I guess we are on hyper alert, so didnt sleep. FB and I are dead dog tired today. If there is any day for a nap, today is the day.
