Supposed to get down to 10F/~ -12C tonight here in southern IL I grew tired of hauling water out to the chickens already, because there's were frozen. So I sprung $30 for a 5 gallon steel fount electric 120 watt heater base. I already have one for the Turkey pen and it seems to work well enough.

I also laid down a fresh bed of barn lime over their deep bedding and added 2 fresh garbage cans full of wood shavings from the shop.

Well let's hope the chickens amd.turkey will be ok overnight.

Goodness, it's 39F here and that's cold for us at the moment… Thankfully the birds have a built in feather duvet to keep them warm in these cold temperatures and it sounds like you have them comfortably set up over there.

Supposed to get several nights in the single digits here too this week, with highs in the teens and 20s in the day. I'm loving it! We so need the cold for various reasons here.

Come Jan/Feb. we usually get subzero temps and I'm hoping we get them again this year. Also hoping for more snow than we've had the past few years...really need it too.

:hide I won't complain real loud about my 40 degree day, the coming 28 night... with 30 days/teen nights for rest of week. Sure do NOT like or want it. It's better than your 0 days!

I hate winter weather.

It's not supposed to get above freezing now for several days. I would not mind the cold so much if I didn't have to be out in it so much. But, I have to go the farm to feed. If I didn't have someone else that can give Stormy his lunch for the rest of the week, I'd be staying out there and trying to stay warm until I was able to give him his dinner. Instead, I get to come home for several hours and work on wood. I didn't have time to get it all done B4 it got cold.

We had a day of mid-30s - just enough to melt the top layer of snow- and then it got foggy and cold. Black ice weather. Not looking forward to going into town tomorrow.

I stand corrected - it's really cold.
