All I know is each corn stalk averages 2-3 full ears per growing season. The plants ideally should be spaced 6-8 inches apart. That gives you the figures to guesstimate how many rows. I can't do math this late at night ;)

All I know is that the average sweet corn cob contains between 1/2 cup and 3/4 cup of corn. I bet a dent corn cob would be similar. I would BUY some ear corn, strip the kernels, weigh the result and get to figuring! ;)

Or, have someone that already has the corn do that and let you know their results.

Im liking that idea Deb. :thumbsup

I will probably set out six rows. And intercrop with the corn.

Well, I have both the corn and a scale. So, as soon as I remember, I'd take some off the ears and weigh it.

The kernels from the one ear I did weighed just over 9 ounces. But remember, not every ear will necessarily be full.

And now I have a question about the corn, can you just plant the field corn that you glean, or is it a sterile hybrid? I'm wanting to grow some corn as well, but don't know if I need to buy seed or just use what I have.
