I got 30 Cornish Cross chicks this morning, one was dead, leaving 29. They cost $1.60 each. We got week old CCX chicks at TSC a few days ago for FREE. We got 25, one died leaving 24. So now we have 53 CCX chicks.

I will post cost, any sales, and freezer meat.

Y’all join in @frustratedearthmother @NH Homesteader @Mini Horses (you know you want some) and anybody else that is raising CCX chicks.

@CrealCritter heres a pic of the new chicks! I also ordered some Australorps.

I bought my 12 meaties and a bag of starter feed for them on Tuesday.
12 Meaties @ 1.99 and a 50 lb bag of starter for 16.99. My total investment so far is 40.87. At this point my cost per bird is already $3.40.

Hmmmm, back in the day, each bird costed out about $11 per bird, including paying for processing, but no labor charge in raising them. Still the rule of thumb of 2 lbs feed to get 1 lb bird?

Yep about that if you give them the right protein. We usually finish around $2.50/lb and process ourselves.

I'm still lurking by the tubs in TSC :hide

30 tonight. HEAR ME??? 30 frickin degrees!! :( I wil NOT have them in my house again. I wait.
