Crock pot castile soap--seems easy enough...

Soap is supposed to be my winter project when my gardens are done. I have been collecting recipes, but haven't even bought any ingredients yet. My cousin and I did make some bath bombs about two weeks ago and that was fun. I want to do soap, lotion, body butter, and maybe lip balm. Good luck with your first batch.

Thanks!

I think I messed it up though, I didn't "stick blend" it to "trace" well enough. I got it to the vanilla pudding stage but I should have kept blending until I got some peaks...unfortunately I missed that little sentence. I hope I didn't screw it up too terribly. :(

Can us use any recipe with the crock pot method? or only the one listed? I'm thinking about getting some crisco and caster and with the assorted oils I have run a recipe thru the calculator and see what I can come up with.
While I have several EO I have more just fragrance oils. Does it make me a bad person to want to use them on the first batches before I use the good stuff?:hide I'd hate to waste expensive EO when the folks I want to give the soap to could care less what kind of EO it was, even if they knew what EO was..:hu

thanks! The soap that I have been making was all CP.. But I have an old crock pot that I kept (cuz it was too good to throw out but I have nice new ones.) and didn't know what to do with it and I may have to try this.. it sounds perfect for me to do for gift giving. Now to dig out my old nasty stick blender.. ;)

Thanks Damummis!

(BTW, my soap turned out fine, it is cut up and drying on a shelf as we speak. Emerald, it was really, really easy...even for me, who has NEVER made her own soap before.)

I am just one of those types of gals who kinda reads and researches and stresses a bit before trying new things only to say afterwards "sheesh grow a pair and just do it next time, there was nothing to it!" :P Picked up crisco to make soap and will probably do it Monday after everyone is gone and it is just me at home.. much less stress that way! lol

:thumbsup Big Brown Horse, thank you! I am going to try this myself. First time also :hide

Hot Process soap is the only kind I make, and yes, I make any recipe just follow the crock-pot cooking method. All additives are added AFTER the soap cooks, so right before it goes into the mold you stir in the essential oils, pumice, oatmeal flour etc.

The scents last longer because they don't go through the processing after the soap traces etc with cold processing. The finished bars are very pretty too, they have a marbled appearance with the glycerin in the bar. Clean up is a breeze, and you can use the soap immediately. The little balls I clean out of the crock pot are my testers to see how the soap comes out. I usually set the cut bars out to dry, but no waiting 8 weeks for the soap to be ready!!

Tami :)
