I was just thinking about some different things. I know, that can be a dangerous thing. I just posted about hog killing, a self sufficient topic. If I mention it in my "journal" and then mention it in another thread or start a new thread am I violating the double posting spam rule?
No, I don't think you are, because we talked a little about this and reinbeau suggested that we maybe mention that we did this, in your case the hog killing, and follow that with "I've posted it in ______ section and you can read about it there" type deal. Did I make sense there? My brain is kind of fuzzy today

No, it's not bumping your thread. The purpose of the journals is to post about our day, even if we were the last one to post to it. :)

Why am I so concerned with rules?
Because you like the forum and want to be sure that you are doing things appropraitely (oh I don't know how that is spelled!) without running the risk of reprimand from the higher ups ;)

There are two threads I want to respond to but it requires some thought first. Why are you people making me think?
Well, because we have to be good for something
You folks are all wonderful. Expecially those of us who might feel like we are on the outside. Come on in, the water's fine. Just watch out for that dacs guy. He gets to rambling and going off on tangents then some random thought pops into his head.

On the way home this evening I saw four deer and hit one of them. :(

I'm OK but really bummed.

First: my truck has a bashed in front end but it is still drivable.

Second: it is warm here, my garage is full, I don't have time to process it, and I don't think there was much that could have been salvaged. I was going about 50 to 55 when I hit it. Caught it full on broadside and it slid quite a ways under my front bumper. What a waste.

Bummer about the deer. I'm glad you're ok though. Hopefully your insurance will pay to fix your car.

Insurance is paying all but the deductible and is paying for a rental car. The truck is still drivable, surprisingly, so I get the rental when I take the truck to the shop on Tuesday.

The election is over, hooray.

Some random thoughts about our election process.

Seems like one or more of the founding fathers felt that the average American was not smart enough to choose a president based on what is best for the country. That is why we have the electoral college.

I live in Illinois. All of Illinois' electoral votes go to Obama. I voted knowing this yet I still voted for McCain because my vote "counts". In reality my vote did not count because Illinois voted overwhelmingly in favor of Obama and all the electoral votes, not a percentage, go to Obama.

I'll dwell on this for a few days then I will move on with my life in the country.

I had that very same discussion with my DH yesterday about Indiana. I voted and I know I should but I don't feel my vote really counts becasue they don't listen to the actually people. Sometimes goverment just plain sucks

.
If I remember correctly, way back when, the electoral college was set up because of slow transportation. People would hold an election, then send a representative by horseback to the capitol to cast the vote for them. In some places the electoral person is not even legally bound to vote the same way the people voted, you vote for a person to cast a vote not for the vote directly. Some states have legally fixed this loophole. It's a very outdated system that needs to be done away with, IMHO :)
