I think I have some black locust. Is its wood green tinted?

It is a little bit, until it dries out. The bark is about 2 inches thick.

Things I am learning and relearning about firewood.


My tractor bucket holds about 8 cubic feet. A cord is 128 cubic feet. Four bucket loads are 1/4 cord. That was a let down. off.

Cured oak splits pretty easily.

I haven't burned as much wood as I thought I have. smile

My tomcat likes to watch me split wood.

We are learning interesting things about our firewood also. We haven't burned our black walnut yet.

We are dissapointed about the same thing. The good thing is that we don't have too far to go from the downed trees that we still need to get to and the wood pile. We had a big ice storm in Dec 07 so there are a lot of trees in the back part of our property that need serious pruning or cutting down all together. It will be great fun when we get to the trees that need cutting down in the back.

Not cured oak, not so much

We've burned more than we thought we would.

Our tomcat likes to follow us around like a puppy. Anytime we go out onto the property, he trots along after us. He'll follow us and "hang out" for extended periods of time. It's pretty cool.

Hmmm, it took me over a year to decide on mine. I've got two that I alternate, this one and one of a chick on a model hovercraft.
