Got home and the water was back. What a roller coaster ride.
 
Wow, dac you sure have your hands full. 1 of 5000 with no power? That's a lot of people. Your driveway makes me wonder if 4wd should be on the SS list of necessities. That and the wood stove right? lol :D Take care!!!
 
We live in Ar and we just got our electricity and water both on after 3 days of running on a generator. We had a 4 wheel drive pickup and gas for the chainsaws so we could get out. And a wood heater for heat and a propane cookstove. We were living it up compared to our closest neighbor. Now we are under a boil order. Sheesh, almost on the aniversary of losing our house in the tornado. Same thing happened afterward, No lights or water for days. Our property has a well, but we aren't living there yet, at least not till we rebuild. Add to it all yesterday I was diagnosed with pneumonia, at least I feel better today.
 
Yeah, after ice storms 2 years in a row I'm ready to trade in the 2WD for a 4WD.

My area of Illinois is pretty well off. It is real bad in Kentucky. The entire KY National Guard was activitated. They have entire counties with no electricity.
 
honestly 4 x 4 on ice stink also. 4x4s are great for snow, mud, etc. etc. but on ICE everyone is in trouble!

yes generators are expensive and you must have alot of gas.

NC is sending crews from here to help restore power. Our state and many others send crews very far to help in emergencies like this...just know that there are many states helping to get your power back on for you!

Your avatar is scary! I had that in NC a few times, and so thick and no power like you.....I know how nasty it can be!!!!

You hang in there Dacs. Warmer weather hopefully will be coming to thaw ya'll out!
 
Day 5 without electricity. At least the sun has been out and the snow is melting. Just about all the ice fell off the trees and power lines yesterday.

Can get back home without chains and the driveway has a pretty good cleared two track. Getting out is a little different. I have an uphill turn to negotiate. Hit it wrong and it's in the ditch so we are still using chains to get out.

I know about 4WD. I've had 3 different 4WD vehicles and decided to give 2WD a chance, especially since when I was buying this truck they didn't have a 4WD on the lot that I wanted. In this situation though if I had 4WD I wouldn't have to mess with the chains.

I'll say it again. I have it good compared to Kentucky.
 
While our area didn't get the ice storms, the conditions have been turning the roads and driveways into sheets of ice. We were getting no traction with either our front wheel drive or the 4x4 vehicles in the driveway. We scattered wood ashes and pulled right out of our drive. This is for anyone who doesn't already know about wood ash on ice. We ashed our walk, too.
 
Wow Dac, five days is a long haul...it doesn't just feel like vacation anymore huh:>) Hopefuly things will get back to normal for all of you soon. February is our month for ice storms...and from the looks of the rest of this winter we're having it isn't going to be easy on us either.
 
We just got our power back. :weee

It is a temporary fix because of where the line is located but it should last long enough. :celebrate


It feels strange to have electricity again.

We noticed that we were burning more wood because the ceiling fan couldn't move the air around. They really make a difference.
 
I saw YIPEE on your title and thought, when Dacs says Yipee! something great must have happened.

quick ---get that hot water warm and take a long hot shower and relax!

When I lose power, when it comes back on, first thing is I wait for that water heater to fire up ----then into the shower I go...with a big sigh of hot water relief!!! LOL

glad for you!!!
