If you folks haven't been through any kind of disaster, natural or man made, you really can't comprehend it and ought not to question the recovery efforts or the pre-disaster mitigation.

so true, so true. Before the ice storm here in 07 we all grumbled and griped about how slow or fast things happened, and many of us found a lot to complain about. Then we were absolutely crippled with the ice storm in '07. And not as many people complained as before. We could all see how devastated the area was, and how hard people were working to put things back together, and that they were just overwhelmed even with the crews coming in from other states.



The electric companies here are now putting in some new lines that are called break away lines that when the get too heavy there is a point at which they just fall and break away from the line....without actually breaking and causing damage. That way they can go back and just re-attach that line rather than having to deal with snapped poles from trees landing on wires that don't give etc.

I really hope that technique becomes widespread.
