Damummis'- Auf wiedersehen

I have come to know that many people really don't know about their animals. Many don't bother to read up on them and remain ignorant. Even otherwise nice people.....like the guy Hen23 and I both bought goats from. Sweet guy, a bit clueless in some ways. He sold inexperienced me a 5 week-old, pulled from her mama, and said she'd do fine on a bottle. Never did take the bottle. Hungry and crying for weeks, she had my stomach in knots, I couldn't fully enjoy her babyhood. But it all worked out, she is my giant Ginger and in her second pregnancy.

I am starting to have second thoughts about the whole goat thing. I have a strong feeling that he knew his animals were not healthy. Would I be a horrible animal owner if I called Farmer "B" and told him I wanted my money back and to come and get his unhealthy goats? I can't feel the sheep thru the wool but I did look at the black ones skin and I think she has some kind of parasite.

No, you wouldn't be horrible if you returned them. Those are big lumps and I don't think I would want to deal with it and have it on my property. So sorry he took advantage of you. :hugs

Returning them may well be a good idea. the sheep on the other had, can be dealt with easily. Getting them sheared and dipped will help a great deal.
Others will have a better idea on the exact processes.

I would get rid of them :( There's plenty of healthy animals out there.

He won't take them back, saying I am over-reacting and he swears his herd is CAE & CL free. :hit

Test...then if they are positive, sue him in small claims court.

Blood tests are very inexpensive. https://w3.vetmed.wsu.edu/
Get them done quickly, and if they are positive, you will have plenty of ammo to get back your money.
And let him know that you are getting them tested asap as well.
That might cause him to back peddle.

That's a bummer. Did you get the sheep and goats from the same person? I don't know how I'd handle it if I bought a CL positive animal, because I just don't want that on my place at all. Even though you've connected with the goats it might just be easier to find them new homes and buy clean animals. :/

And FWIW, CAE is definitely manageable, and IMO I'd rather have CAE than CL. My doe is CAE positive, and I had a really hard time with it at first, but I was already attached so I manage it. It doesn't affect her at all, and I bottle feed her kids. It's no big deal for me.

Is the sheep crusty on the top of the head? Is the wool pulling out or is it flaky skin? Sounds like it could be several things...ringworm or maybe lice or mites or something. It's hard to tell from the description. Pictures may help.

The sheep skin, everywhere, looks like really bad cradle cap. I did notice that some of the wool is coming out too.
