He has grown up believing that knowledge (as compared to others) and perfection (being more right than others) is social currency and required for social acceptance / relationships / love.
Hits close to home. DGS is a horrible person, at 14 even now. He's been a jerk since he was about 5. He thinks he knows everything and becomes very hostile if he's ever told he's completely mistaken.

We 'watched' him while his parents and sis were in Italy last month. Two weeks. We only saw him when I called him for dinner. One time he lit the gas range and put one of my copper pots on the fire, cus he was going to make ramen. He let the pot heat up, then added the water. Hubs found this and told him to add the water to the pot and then bring it to a boil. He wouldn't hear of that. "Nobody does that. This makes the water boil faster." I banished him from using my ONE copper pot ever again.

Two days later, he doing it correctly in a Revere ware pan. He was boiling the water. And boiling the water. I said, hey J, your water is ready. He said it wasn't. It need to boil harder. I said that it won't be boiling any harder cus its at 212 degrees and unless it has a substrate in there, 212 will be the hottest it will get and this boiling will be the best you'll be getting. He huffed off and never made ramen again.

His parents (my DD) let him ride the city bus all the time. Alone. To where ever he wants. For hours at a time. It gets him out of their hair and they think it makes him feel more independent. Then he shows up at home and is all proud of his travels and they are too..........

i didn't really get a lot of stuff sorted out until i was 25 and it was good for me to be out on my own.

all i can offer at this point is to not say things that are permanently damaging but also make sure to establish that there are boundaries where you'll withdraw to keep your own self safe. you'll still love them but sometimes it's better to be a few steps removed from their particular brands of mayhem.

DS8 had 4-H cake revue. He entered 3 classes, won 3 blue ribbons and a grand champion! We did not expect 3 blues! The cake decorating project is amazing in my county. Super friendly (can't say it's competitive), but very high quality cakes at all age levels. Excellent judge. It was fun for everyone.

His purple ribbon was for "3 cupcakes decorated differently on a theme, with tips" DS16 made the broccoli. (DS16 planned to make these and enter them but had a meltdown and quit over a failed attempt at making a fortune cookie out of caramel). They're allowed to use purchased decorations, so we figured it was still fair. DS8 told the judge what parts DS16 made for him. 20230716_110844.jpg

We survived the county fair. We are all still very sleep deprived. DS16 went to an airshow yesterday. He group left at 3:45 am and arrived back at 11:45 pm. :th

We got hit by a hail storm while at the fairgrounds. The damage made national news. My car and camper were hit, both need repair.

My GI stuff is center stage in my life rn. I've figured out how to relieve symptoms, but it causes weight loss. Fine for now since I had extra, but not sustainable. DH is worried. I have a GI specialist appointment soon.

I'm busy trying to tie up lose ends. August is a rough month. Lots of closures and new beginnings.

We are still trying to recover from the fair. I just got caught up on laundry today!

My dog started using buttons today! It has been a long road. He was neglected in his previous home so it took like 6 months for him to expect we would meet his needs. We've had him for 9 months! Most dogs figure out buttons within 4 months.

He is in the experimentation phase. He knows the words on his buttons. But he isn't accurate in pressing the right button. He doesn't really know where they are and he doesn't look at his soundboard. He's not completely sure that he will get what he asks for (within reason, lol)

I updated his soundboard today to add Water, Pet, and Car. He also has Tug, Eat, Ball, Outside, and All-done. I removed Want and ???. (He doesn't understand those words yet.) He was SO EXCITED for the Car button. I might regret letting him say that word :gig

One of my orders was delayed. Unfortunately it was my pancreas enzymes. I ran out. 😣 I'm missing out on visiting with MIL because it's less awkward to be missing than to explain - or avoid explaining - why I'm not eating. (I might go later when they're done eating)

A different package of enzymes is ahead of schedule and might arrive tomorrow. 🤞 My options 'til then are suffering through symptoms, fasting, or sugary drinks. I'd rather be hungry than miserable.

But, silver lining! I have the house to myself for a while! I don't know what to do first!
