Thanks Nightshade! My beds are just made out of deck boards. I bought 8 footers and cut some in half to make the beds all 4' x 8' and they are three boards high(about 18 inches) They are filled with a combination of topsoil, sand, leaf compost and well composted horse manure. My wife LOVES them because they are so easy to weed, but we do have to keep an eye on the moisture so they don't dry out. Another plus to raised beds, is it seems to stop the rabbits from munching away on our stuff!

Don't forget, the higher you make your raised beds, the more you will spend on lumber, unless you are getting it for free.

I was able to scrounge some of my raised bed lumber, and I bought a few boards to finish them off, but buying boards, especially wide boards, gets expensive fast.
