It's pouring right now. I'm going to wait a bit longer in the hopes that this will stop, but if it doesn't, looks like I'll be feeding horses in the pouring rain. Won't be the first time.

It was still raining when I left, so I had on my rain pants and rain jacket. And, when I got to the farm, I put on my muck boots. By the time I had the horses fed, the rain had pretty much stopped. but the mud in that one spot is horrible! It almost pulled my boots off. I so wish I could have put more sand in it B4 we had this storm.

RU has a soft sided shed that she's been trying to get a new cover on it. She doesn't have it quite right, and water pools in there. I don't really want mosquitoes using it for a nursery, so I decided to lift up on it from underneath to drain the water. Well, in most of the spots, it worked great. Then, I got to the last spot. And of course, the water went down my back! I had thought it was going to be cooler today than it was, and had worn a long sleeved shirt. But, I was too hot, and had a T shirt in my tack shed for just that reason. So, I was wearing that. There was just NO WAY I could leave it on, so I had to change. At least by then, I had gotten done most of what I wanted to accomplish out at the farm. The field was soaked, so I just worked on weeding by my tack shed. I'm starting to see a big difference there. But, I put on my hot shirt, hung the other on the corner of my screen door, fed Cindy, and left. I was hot-and the Durango has no AC. Now I'm home, my knees hurt, and I'm beat. Any one want to come and clean my house for me?

Since it's getting light so early now, the bird walks have been changed to Tuesday evenings until September, so I'm just back from that. And, I had a large bee of some sort almost fly in my mouth! I don't know for sure what it was, I only got a glimpse of it, but I'm glad I didn't get stung!

Today was supposed to start my new schedule, but I was a bit beat and didn't get out the door as quickly as I had planned. And, right when I was getting ready, someone knocked on the door. It was the guy that had wanted to buy the woods next to me. He had settlement yesterday and wanted to let me know. But, I have his permission to get wood out of there, and even ride my horses in there! I can basically do what I want w/out the expense of owning the property! Sounds good to me.

I got out to the farm, and found it didn't really matter that I was late. The RP was just too wet to work horses in. So, I got everyone fed, but since my field wasn't too wet, I went ahead and cleaned it. It took me less than an hour! I spent the rest of the time I had planned on working in the field weeding the fence line.

I want to give all the horses a good grooming. All of them look a bit uncared for, so I decided that today I was going to groom Honey and Licky. And, since I didn't want to take them thru the area I have seeded, I decided to take them in the RP, and groom them there. Both of them gave me a bit of grief leading, so we worked on that both on the way to the RP, and on the way back. And, they both look much better.

I also got more of the area in front of my tack shed cleaned. And while I don't really want the buttercups, that's much better than what I USED to have. When I first started working on this area, there was nothing but spiny pig weed. I managed to get rid of all of that. Last year, there were buttercups, and almost no grass. Now, I'm getting more grass and less buttercups. I'm hoping if I keep it weeded, I'll eventually have only grass and clover there.

But the big news of the day was what I saw when I was grooming Honey. I saw a scarlet tanager flying across the field! For those who have never seen (or heard) of one, this is what they look like. http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Scarlet_Tanager/id I wasn't sure at first if it was that or a Baltimore Oriole. Neither is overly common around here and I couldn't remember what color back the oriole had, and this one was an orangish red. But once I got home and look at a pic, there was no doubt in my mind! I thought I saw one the other day, but couldn't get a good look, so maybe I did! I'm hoping it may be hanging around the farm!

Why didn't you catch it in your mouth and mail it over to me??? I always take in new bees
