Does anyone make a Yule log?

I have taken a nice cherry log, 20" long and tied fresh and dried herbs, greens with red ribbon. I have used rosemary, holly, greenbriar, sage, ivy.

I know an authentic log is huge and fed into the fire each day.
I toured the Goodyear founder's mansion "Stan Hywet Hall" where they had originally used horses to haul a 10' long tree trunk of 3' diameter and pushed the end in each night.
A little bit out of my league.

I honestly never knew what a Yule log was. I mean, I've heard about them, but still never really knew what it was. It sounds very interesting though! I'll have to google some info on it.

I thought it was a rolled cake thing that you ate!

I always wondered why someone would want to eat wood.

There is a Christmas cake that is rolled up to represent the Yule log, so you're not wrong! I think the cake is much more popular than the actual log nowadays.

The only Yule log I know of is the one after dinner in the..... Oh never mind....

Thanks. I already knew that from reading some of my wifes books. However it's good to let people know the original origins of the holidays. People should understand that all the religious holidays are simply modifications of Pagan holidays that existed long before Christ. The church placed them in the same calender area to make it easier to convert the Pagans. Sometimes the sword and the fire didn't actually convert them. Just made then dead.

Thanks for spreading the info. We don't have a fireplace our we would honor the holiday. Of course we don't need any more fertility either.

Those are real nice! You can also take a hole saw and cut holes into the log and place candles into them,..like tea candles. They are so pretty with the candles and decorated.

We do the yule log. We also do a bonefire aswell on the solstice. Have to get rid of those evil spirits somehow.
