I pulled some chicken backs out of the freezer and made chicken noodle soup with homemade noodles last night!

Chicken backs? I haven't heard of those! What are they, exactly?

No problem!

When we get our meat chickens processed (yes, I pay someone, doing 50 chickens in one day by yourself would not be fun), the processor will quarter (2 breast/wings, 2 thigh/drumsticks) off of the backbone. It's quick, but leaves some meat on the "back". We freeze some of those backs (2 or 3 to a bag, and when we want fresh chicken stock, I'll through the contents of the bag in the stock pot was the base for the chicken stock.

Don't stop asking questions - the only "bad" question is the one not asked!!!

AACK! Too much snow!

Fifteen inches, my ***!

We easily got two feet of snow, perhaps closer to two and a half. And I was on shoveling duty!

Aw, who'm I kidding, I love it.

Shoveled off all the steps for over an hour, then played in the wonderful snowbanks my father had created with the plow. Puppy and I went sledding off the piles. He didn't like it very much.

We do something similar with our meat birds. I always want to do them myself, but at two birds an hour... It doesn't really work. Our equipment is pretty much a scalder and a pair of hands. Maybe if I weren't the only one doing it, it would go faster!

Nope. Probably tomorrow. DS did a great job getting some work done on a long term project at school so I'm going to take him to the hill at my school this weekend.

Ack, not enough to do!

It's not like it's boring around here... It's just not interesting enough!

At least in the summer I can pop off a few gophers in my spare time. Yeah, I suppose I could go for coyotes, since night hunting season is here, but it's downright freezing outside! That's fine by me, as long as I keep moving. But with coyotes, you breathe and they'll hear you. So it's all still hunting. :/

Maybe I'll hunt tin cans instead.

For all you plinking enthusiasts out there, what's the most interesting thing you've put a bullet into? The coolest thing I've ever shot was a pumpkin, with my friend's .50 caliber muzzle-loader. Pieces flew 20 feet in the air!
