Which desert? The high desert of Colorado has orchards.
The Mohave has prickly pear/Nopales and other regional foods. Please don't let this be the Salt Lake desert- I 'd have no ideas, then. ;)

Buying as seasonally and locally as possible sure allows you to save big money.

Today I bought 50 pounds of apples for $23.00. All while enjoying a little drive in the sunshine looking at the beautiful fall trees. Eating local is a good idea! :D
