FarmerJamie - A new beginning

I'm thinking they may be some sort of Bosc pear, based on the skin texture and coloring. The neighbor who gave them to us claimed they need 2-3 weeks to ripen, sitting on the counter, not to use the paper bag method. I'm still scratching my head - I used to work in a grocery store produce dept and don't remember any advice like that, even with the local fruit we sold. Like SD said, paper bag in a cool dry place undisturbed always did the trick in few days.

I think the carrot cake jam posted around here somewhere had pears as a big component, I'll go look in my stack of recipe printouts to see if I saved it.

thanks, ya'all.

LOL! This group is at its most helpful when it involves nom food.

You tell me, buddy? What'cha think of the pictures?

Son's baseball team won 13-0 today, championship is next week!

Looks like you are doing good! Woohoo!! New coop here we come!

Just got home from the processor, 34 meaties cooling on ice right now. Time for lunch.

ETA: I put DS in charge of this batch for care and feeding and we only lost 2 out of 36 in this batch from Meyer!!! :woot

We may need to use meyers for our order of 50 in the spring..........

50 are a lot to do at once. I've had the most success with 30-35 at the most. I'm really liking getting all females, too. They seem to grow at a more uniform rate and I've had fewer issues overall. Are you stocking up on feed now?

Couple of updates - this weekend is just me and DS. DD's are at MIL's (she's having grandkid withdrawal symptoms) and DW is with mom at a scrapbooking convention(?).

Baseball scrimmage tomorrow, championship game Sunday (Fall league). Going to take a bunch of stuff to the Geauga County Habitat Restore tomorrow. Those pears seem soft enough to do something with, so that's on the list, too.

The carpenter guy was supposed to move the shed onto the foundation today, but he never showed up.

Not much else unless we can find something good to get into trouble with.

Nope.

I hope you and DS have a good weekend!
