I'm anti WAR, not anti military. I say support our boys. We sent them out and they are risking their lives and should be taken care of when they get home. I'm just not so hot on why we send them out.

The gardening season is now officially over here. We dug up the last of the potatoes yesterday, about 1/2 bushel. They did well considering the area received almost twice the "normal" rainfall this summer. The small back garden is ready to be tilled and covered with the meatie bedding, once they hit the freezer. Once I till up parts of the big garden, I have a used storm door that I may use to build a cold frame before it gets too bad out this fall.

The neighbors gave us a bunch of pears (don't recognize the variety) that we're not sure what we will do with them.

Fall baseball league playoffs start today, it's supposed to be 80 and sunny, will try to enjoy the last hurrah of good weather today.

*twirls* we got snow yesterday and it's 48* so far today

But it's supposed to warm right back up

We've had snow as early as mid-October, but nothing like that on the horizon, yet. Farmer's Almanac says below-normal temps for this winter.

Cheese and potatoes, a winning combo!

The pears are big, but are as hard as rocks. The taters are drying in the sun so we can knock some of the dirt off.

lots of pears ripen better if you put them in a brown bag for a couple days. They won't be so hard after that.

The pears I can are big and round. I think Anjou. If you leave them on the counter for a day or two they will go soft. I find that if I can them about a day after they are off the tree they are still crisp after canning. One way I can tell is when I peel them. The under ripe look dry, the ripe actually look juicy.
