I would really like to try soap but there seems to be an even steeper start up cost
STEEP START up costs?? What are you talking about? All you need is a bottle of olive oil and some lye, a thermometer and big old pan! How expensive is that!

Come on now ... As CHEAP as I am and I have been soaping for quite a few years now.
Don't you need a couple type of oils? and some EO?
I had priced some stuff at a soap making store and I think I would have to spend about $40.

Edited to add....congrats on your winnings! I have always thought that it would be fun to enter something in our local county fair...maybe i should look into it next year. You make it sound fun :)

OH, FF! I so wanna come out for the Ren fest!! I think I have an "Elfin" skirt that would work out fine for a gypsy get up! Could I come as a Gypsy? :gig

Congratulations on all those ribbons!

Ren Fest is great fun! Last October ds and his dgf and I went to the one in Plantersville, TX. We met my dd's homeschooling group and had a terrific day!

Unfortunately the one closest to us may have just had its last season - I read that there are some land issues that may prevent another year of fun.

Have a grand time! I love the idea of a turkey in a wagon!
