Hubby's back was like that, same place. He went to a great chiropractor who helped but finally the chiropractor referred him to a specialist. Hubby actually visited two, at my DEMAND because the first one wanted to start with surgery. I used to type medical transcription reports about this topic and I never HEARD of them starting with that, so made him get a second opinion.
He ended up getting steroid injections in his back and it was a MIRACLE. His back will still flare up from time to time, but what a huge change. Have they tried that for you? He needs to get a tune up every now and then but he says it doesn't hurt half so much as his back pain and it made SUCH an improvement. I wish you lived close enough to see the same doc, he was a miracle worker. They called him a pain management specialist but he was a neurologist. Hubby went to the appts and says they put a "gel in there that neutralizes something." I wish I could give you the real medical terms but he would not have understood them. He is one of those people who "doesn't wanna know" anything about what doctors are doing. I'm the opposite, I research every angle.
