Major undertaking here too. Small freezer but chest type, so issues. However -- I entered my annual "no buy" winter early, so I'm looking & cooking thru it. The pantry is loaded, too. Coffee still plentiful. That & chocolate take extra space, even a buy if necessary!! :old priorities

Garden will be a priority 2026. Refill jars!

I miss GOOD Chinese food locally.

several months ago for the first time ever i had orange beef at the place we normally have eaten at for the past nearly 50 years. sad to say it wasn't nearly as good as it should have been. the beef was really tough and overcooked - shoe leather would have been an improvement.

i was really looking forwards to it since i'd remembered how much i liked it from a place i used to go to when i was at the university. unfortunately that place changed owners and the last time i was there and tried their hot and sour soup and crispy orange beef it was all pretty yucko. i've never had hot and sour soup as good as theirs from the good old days... yes, i'm getting to be one of those people who talks that way. :) when i'm muttering under my breath that is usually what i'm going on about...

and today, completely nothing to do with food, i've already had to get into the sewing machine and get it oiled, cleaned and working again because it wasn't right and Mom was calling for help right when i got up and i wasn't even awake yet. she likes living on the edge i guess... she was talking to herself while i was working on the machine and i had to ask her to please stop and so she ignored me and kept on with what she was doing. :) :) :) funny, but it makes me want to pull what little hair out that i have left and first thing in the morning you might was well be running your fingernails down a chalkboard.

I have a year's worth of coffee in the basement. We are not fussy about our coffee, especially since hubs and son enjoy a little coffee in their vanilla oat based creamer. Me? I'm a black coffee person, and only have one cup after my morning tea.

Coffee prices for retail packages are up 21% this calendar year so far.

Tell your wife that dates on products are not the law - not Federal or USDA or state.... They were originally put there to help grocers manage their inventory. And that most manuf post dates about 2 years out, in general. The food, of course, last alot longer.

I'm finishing up my 2023 items and dipping into the 24 items in my deep pantry.

There is only ONE Item that is mandated to have an expiration date, and its Infant Formula.

This is why, when I work at the food bank, on those days I bring home all the "supposedly expired" food and then pass it out to neighbors and others on the weekends. Nobody turns it down nowadays.

I know, I know. We agree if it's something I alone eat, she won't fuss at the date. It's not like we are in her home state with oppressive heat ruining everything

We've been juggling the household grocery stuff for a few months to pay for some unplanned expenses and to draw down the older items in the larder and not buy extra supplies (wife is a huge stickler on expiration dates, me, not so much). Going to be an expensive few weeks. The 6 month coffee supply is down to four weeks. Priorities!
Five hours and home. Mentally exhausting
