Neighbor Mr. S. just called and we've got venison on the way!!! I'd begun to think they were going to get skunked this year but he just called and said they'll drop it in the driveway around 6:30!!! 
Pulling goose out of the freezer to have the other neighbor smoke for Thanksgiving. I'll let him know the venison is on the way. He'll process it for us for a couple of jars of my applesauce!

Deer roasts done and in the freezer, now I just have to wait to get home on Monday to grind the bits for sausage and chop up the stew meat. Mr. S. thought they would get another one tomorrow as long as we would take the meat! Helped our other neighbor with the butchering. I missed out last year because I was at work. He's truly a master, at least in my eyes. Every stroke of his blade did something. He had it skinned in 15 minutes and I was back at my house in 1 hour.

Yup! Saturdays and Mondays are pretty much my "homestead" days right now... if you can call 1/4 acre a homestead.
Well, got everything on the list done other than sausage. I guess that will be tomorrow's project. I am excited though because the food adventures continue. My first time fermenting kimchi! Can't wait to taste it. Also made the fire cider that AL posted a recipe for on her journal. It's supposed to be used as a general winter and resperatory tonic. All I have to say is I don't know what 3-8 weeks of fermentation will do but it about burned my nose hairs off when I was making it.
Man, sometimes I hate craiglist it makes me want stuff! I found an antique butter churn today that is basically a barrel on it's side that you crank. I also found an enterprise sausage stuffer/ lard press/ fruit press, and several beehives.
Do you ever get so close to a goal that you can just about taste it? The closer to reality it becomes the harder our current situation is. Exciting and frustrating at the same time.

No, I'm not getting any of those wonderful treasures. I don't know why I torture myself by looking sometimes! I just have to keep reminding myself that in July, we should be debt free if we stay on task...
It's just hard because we're so close to being able to dream and do and be behind some of the hurdles from decisions in the past. It will all be worth it but I have to stay on task financially!
