About Me: I am a wife and mother. We have three children, ages 4, 3, and 1. We live in suburbia, but long for the country. My husband and I both grew up back east. Me, a fairly rural part of N.J. My husband on a dairy farm in N.H. After our first child was born, we started getting concerned about where our food comes from what's in it, etc., and this has led to us wanting to become more self sufficient. We try to grow as much of our own produce as possible, shop at the farmers market, thrift stores, garage sales, and are more than happy to take hand-me-downs. Nothing in our house matches, and there is no "theme" to it, unless thrifty or frugal count! We are planning to homeschool our kids. We currently have 4 two week old chicks, and are excited about their future eggs. I make my own bread, cook everything from scratch, and would like to do more like laundrey soap etc. Everything is a work in progress with three small children, and chaos reigns in our house! But I love it, and would'nt trade it for anything...Except a few acres in the country!

I so identify with this! When our children were growing up, each room in our house had a separate theme.... Holly Hobbie/Strawberry Shortcake/Beatles, Masters of the Universe/Cleveland Indians/Wierd Al Yankovic, colonial/Williamsburg blues, casual country, and even formal victorian in the living room! Now everything seems to be a piece or two from the past 30 years! I think feeling comfortable and cozy is better than anything else.

Welcome!!!
Seriously though, there is lots you can do in suburbia. It sounds like you're making the most of what you have now. Have fun with your little chickies. In a few months you'll have eggs!!!

Welcome! We are just about neighbors. :D San Clemente's a pretty dense city. 6 raised beds is a great accomplishment. I totally understand the chaos part. I have 3 kids, 8, 6 and 3. the house is crazy but loving every minute. Or at least that's what I try to convince myself of. :D

Laundry sop is easy to make, dry or liquid. I just did this a few months ago. There is a ton of info on it. And you will save a fortune.

One thing at a time....

We have alot of common interests and activities.

How did you get to CA from NJ? You really moved cross country.

I love thrift stores and flea markets. I'm a Goodwill Junkie, myself. :frow

I've heard that decorating style called Early American Thrift Store - my house is furnished with it, too! :) And The Princess Bride is a great flick - did you like Willow, too? :welcome
