Cool and damp and yucky out there. I'm kinda over it, lol. Not that what I want is gonna change Mother Nature's path! Just gotta grin and bear it.
Walked out to the pond this morning to check on my Mulberry trees. The bigger one in the backyard is already budding out. One of the ones by the pond has some tiny buds/leaves on it, but the other two are still bare. Also planted a pkg of wildflower seeds on the side of green mountain. Hope I get some pretties out of it. I've never been much of a flower gardener - maybe a few sunflowers here and there. This was a mixed bunch of seeds that included some bluebonnets. It would be kinda cool to see the state flower of Texas growing by the pond. IF they get established, they should come back year after year.
Started disbudding babies. Ugh - my most despised goat chore. Got four done - 8 to go out of this batch of babies. More to be born next month and the process will start over again. Double ugh.
Another home health provider to show up today. Insurance company offers a visit from a Nurse Practitioner once a year. DH always goes along with it. (Me - never, lol.) But, she will be here this afternoon...sigh.

Dehorning cattle is worse. There is a dehorning paste some cattle men use, it essentially burns the horn bud off. But if it gets elsewhere on the calf’s face, it’s not good.

Went to bed tired and woke up tired, lol. Coffee is helping for sure!
It's been a crazy busy few days. I logged a bit over 4 miles in steps yesterday and 3 the day before.
The privacy fence between me and the neighbors is done! Still need to put up a section of stock panels in the barnyard to complete the project. That should happen next weekend. Geeze, hurricane was back in July - so we're making record progress, lol.
We took down a small tree in the backyard so I've had the extra fun of breaking it down and moving it. I hate to lose a tree, but this one picked a bad place to grow. I don't even know what kind of tree it was.
Set a round bale that didn't want to cooperate, but got it done anyway. For some reason those strings that hold the bale together are important! The goats had reached over/through a fence to get their greedy mouths on this bale so it wasn't a nice tight bale anymore. It's moved and set but a normal 20-minute job turned into an hour + job.
Unloaded a truck full of feed and need to pick up more soon. Mama goats are hungry goats! Babies are starting to nibble at the feed so I need to set up their creep area.
I finally got the last 4 of the doelings disbudded and tagged. They are not the least bit appreciative of my efforts.
Never a shortage of work to be done around here.... only a shortage of energy to complete it, lol.

Two inches of rain today - so far! We needed it so badly....NOT! More to come tonight and tomorrow. Sigh...
Goats are goating and kids are growing. The Boer buck produced some really nice kids...the Myo buck did too. Gonna have some keepers. Some of the old gals will likely be retired. Gonna need to shore up my fences because the goats don't always agree with that retirement thing, lol.
Quail are producing more eggs than I can keep up with and then hens have decided not to be outdone. Incubator popped out another crop of both this weekend. Probably have about 30ish quail and 20+ chicks. Neighbors will take some of the chicken chicks. I'll be butchering some more quail soon. I've got some colors that I don't enjoy. Some of the quail can be sexed by the color of their feathers. Those are the ones I like. Some of the other colors don't make that distinction. I don't like those so much. They taste just as good though.

I raised quail a long time ago. There weren’t all the colors then, male/female were easy to tell apart. Lots of eggs! I broke them into a measuring cup. I think it was 1/4 cup quail eggs to 1 chicken egg. They were great fried, a yolk in every bite. Plus pickled quail eggs, so yummy.
I haven’t been out yet to see how much rain. And it’s going to rain some more today. But the good news, it’s not freezing! No hours spent carrying buckets of hot water from the house! And there will be sunshine this week!

I need to make a big batch of those eggs. Yummy!
Our two inches was around 4pm yesterday - I haven't been out this morning to see how much more we got. Still dripply out there this morning. Ugh.
Good news - sunshine and temps in the 70's next week!
