Got up a little later than I wanted but still had to get out and get busy. Neighbor mowed my pasture the other day and in doing so he musta snagged the mower on the fence. Goats were out yesterday...on his property, lol. He broke it so goats felt the need to point it out. First order of business today was to do a quick repair. It wasn't terrible - just enough staples popped outta the post to let the fence sag. Big ol' boer goats never miss anything so they hopped over and so did the rest of the crew. All better now - no harm, no foul.
I figured while I was out there I'd kill two birds and all that.... Took the weed whacker and did some trimming around the pond. THE WORST WEEDS live there. I hate sedge. It's tough and fibrous and stringy and the trimmer struggles to get through it. I can get the lawn mower pretty close to the edge, but not close enough without risking a dunking. From what I understand - mowers can't swim and I certainly don't want to either. Yikes!
I started all this around 6:45 this morning. I got back in from those particular chores around 8 and it was already 89 degrees. So over it.
Gonna make some cheese today. I've been saying that for a week now but gotta get to it today. No more room in the fridge.
can you get a metal blade attachment for your trimmer? gotta be careful with it because it will go right through fences or edges of plastic or wood but for cutting harder things it does the job.
It's Saturday (I think) and rain is in the forecast. Rain has been in the forecast every weekend for at least 3 weeks now. We've got a little of it - but nothing near the potential flooding that was mentioned. I'm mostly ok with it even though we could use a little of it.
Pond is down even with the showers we've had. So far, it doesn't look like it's detrimental to the fish population. Speaking of population, we have a new pond inhabitant. We've gained a rather large red-eared slider. We had one earlier in the year but he got caught in a fish trap and drowned. I don't want a large population of turtles, but I'm ok with this one. They are good for the ecosystem. They will eat a fish or two - but mostly sick or injured ones along with a fish egg if they can. The bluegill are fiercely protective of their nests so I'm not terribly worried about it - turtles gotta eat too, lol.
DH had a check up yesterday. It went well. He had the opportunity to walk more than he does at home and he did pretty well. I think all the workouts we've been doing are helping. I'm kind of glad that PT disappeared because he's doing better on the youtube workouts. Might not have that much to do with PT or not - but more that we're doing them almost daily. We generally take Sunday off. We're doing balance work every day because his balance sucks. We're doing strength training every other day. The days we do balance work he will get on the treadmill or exer-bike also. I'm pushing him because he won't push himself. He does better if I work out with him so that's what I do. It's beneficial for me too and I enjoy it.
Breeding season has commenced. It's the goats choice on timing - not mine. I'm always clued in by the bucks finding any weak spot in the fence and liberating themselves. Every. Single. Year! Doesn't always even mean a weak spot. The big boer goat could win fence jumping awards. He might be outta here after this season...
