if you have no pressure at all you have to figure out if your pump is shot or not, but once you know the pump is working and during really cold weather you do not want to turn off any flows you might have if they are in danger of freezing. it is much harder to get things unfrozen again if there is no flow at all.

if you do end up with a broken pipe then yes you want to shut things off if you can as you don't want to flood the house or cause other problems on the property, but if you can isolate the break and get that repaired ASAP before the plumbing freezes that is the best thing that can happen.

One of my does aborted a baby yesterday. No idea why. I found it with no movement except for a heartbeat and an occasional shallow breath. Poor baby was probably a month early. No teeth, barely any hair and eyes sealed shut. No hope and its mama really didn't seem to have a bond with it. I put her in a pen with the baby overnight in case she had anymore babies to be delivered. She was 100% ready to get out of that pen this morning and went on like nothing ever happened. So sad.

We got up to 60 degrees today! Should be a tad warmer tomorrow and then get cold again for the weekend. Boo! I hope that's all the winter we're going to get this year. I'm quite done with it!

I'm going to pick some collards tomorrow and probably a few turnips too. They both came through the freeze quite nicely. No apparent problems and I hope the cold helped mellow the flavors. I need a big ol bowl of collards and cornbread with some sausage. Yum!

Just about time for me to get horizontal for the night.
