Whelp - we finally got some rain. Not much rain to speak of for months and yesterday, we had 8 inches. It started around 1am and rained until about 11am. Hard, pouring, can't see through it rain for 10 hours. It was awful in my pens, yard, pasture. Thankfully, some of it ran off. Goats are high and dry in their barn, but the chicken pens were all muddy. Pig pens - argh - nasty, wet, sloppy and gross. I grabbed a whole bunch of old hay and bedded the chicken pens. They were grateful for sure. I cleaned out the big crate in the piglet pen and bedded it too. The big pigs are just going to have to tough it out. They have shelters, but because they've half a$$ destroyed them they're just going to have to get wet. The positive side of that is that they look so pretty when they've spent some time in the rain ad aren't caked with mud from their mud pits.
Oh my gosh - my LGD's were on the job this morning. Karma (english shepherd) was in on the action too. They all went running out in the pasture and were having a high time splashing around. They wouldn't come back when I called 'em so I left 'em out there. That'll teach 'em, lol. By the time I got back to the house I could hear some commotion. So, I had to get my boots back on and head back out. I could tell they had something cornered (that's why they wouldn't come when I called) so I grabbed my pistol. They were concentrating on the upside-down pedal boat by the pond. Karma was getting half under there and the big dogs were circling. Karma dragged something out (I was praying it wasn't a skunk) and the big gals grabbed it and played tug of war, and shake it to death, with it. By the time I got out there it was all over. They had killed the big bad critter. Poor thing - it was a feral cat. I hope there aren't kittens out there. I'll check this afternoon and I'll keep the dogs penned up while I do.
Leaving early afternoon tomorrow to go to DGD's graduation. Coming home the next morning. Won't really get to spend any time with her though - maybe a few minutes after the ceremony. We can't leave early enough to see her before she has to be there. Ceremony doesn't start until 7:30 and with a graduating class of nearly 550 it will last long into the night. We can visit for a few minutes but nowhere to go to sit down and visit that late. Maybe an all night diner somewhere...I don't know what's in the area. Better go look that up.
