Sorry to hear about the uterine prolapse. Seen it in alpacas and it ain't no pretty sight. We give alpacas another chance with breeding. If they prolapse again, then we usually pull them from breeding. See it more in older alpacas who are permanently stretched out.

I have yet to come down from the adrenaline high. It sure was a sight. Looked like a big 'ol octopus.

Cara's trying to stand but surely is in some pain. Vet drugged her up good and I have a laundry list of stuff to do for the next 5 days until I bring her in for a check up.

Littlun is very hungry - I realized I had some colostrum from his grandmother last year and I was able to milk about an oz from Cara as she lay there. If she'd get up I'd leave him be and hope that he latches on to her, but it's not looking good at the moment.

I've put him in the little red sweaters Fudgie's gals wore....yes, he fits into them! Do you see how big he is compared to Cara!?!?!

Girl down the road ended up coming and bringing the 2 Saanans, Jenny and Katie. We ended up trading Nilly (who looks like she's gonna blow soon) and kids for the 2 goats and $100 - papers included.

I love love love my neighbor through the woods. I called her at 8:30 and she rerouted her trip to NJ so she and her husband could come help me. They have nigerians and have had their own share of losses this year. But they were such a huge help it's rediculous. Just to not have to go through that alone (well, alone with an awesome vet) was more than I could've asked for.

Oh man, I'm so sorry that happened! It's so disappointing I'm so glad she's ok and the kid is ok! He is big compared to her! Hopefully she'll heal up quickly. Did he stitch her or anything to keep her from prolapsing again? It might take a few days (to a week) for her uterus to shrink back down, but oxytocin helps with that so if you can get that kid nursing or get her up so you can milk her it will help.

Honestly, I don't know what to do right now.

The buckling isn't nursing from her. I was able to get about an ounce from her earlier and will try to get more in the morning. The buckling is hunger as a bear and luckily I had some colostrum frozen from last year so I've been giving him that as opposed to the powdered stuff.

Big G had a really big event for his work tonight so we went. I gave her the second round of medicine and fed him 2 oz before we left at 4pm. We came home about two hours ago and when I went out to feed the buckling and check on her I saw she was bleeding from her nose.

Called the vet and she said it could be anything from her banging her head hard to something very serious. I've got to check on her in an hour and call back. If it's still bad I can bring her to the vet's house (to save myself some $$) for a vitimin K shot and just go from there.


SD....the vet recommedned Cara never be bred again, which I agree with. She will become a permanent pet here at my house for as long as it takes.

Now - since that buckling sucked down 3oz of colustrum about 30 min ago I'm going to give him a little more so I can hopefully get a few hours sleep.
