Well......what a weekend it's been.
Saturday I was at the Windham High School Project Graduation Craft Show selling my soaps....sold out of a few kinds! Met some wonderful people and did some "networking". I was supposed to bring little g to a friend's house but by the end of the day I was so tired I decided we'd have a movie night instead.
Today some nice folks came and brought Fudgie's girls home. I got a little misty eyed as they started to drive off, but composed myself because I had to leave just about immediatley to go look at two nubians!
Needless to say I brought them home - Mallory and April (that's Eloise to the far left):
Since Fudgie had gone about 8 hours without being nursed I put her up on the stand with a big ol bucket of grain and got....get this....1/4 cup!
Here's what happened:
She's got the FF teats and is a B*(#@) to milk right now. I need me some bigguns that's for sure. I had to hobble her because she really wasn't having any of the milking. So, hobble goes on.
She brings her hocks as close to her udder as she can, forcing the teeny teats to go on the outside of the hobble (as in, under her rear end now). So I've got to pull the teeny teats INSIDE the hobble area and try to line them up with the bucket. Squirt Squirt Squirt we go....one handed because she's still
thinking about jumping.
Fudgie's almost done with the grain so I grab the bucket and run as fast as I can to the grain bin to fill it up. As I run back I see her hobble hopping around, then hobble jump OFF the stand.....WITH HER NECK still IN THE STAND.
I get to her and move the stanchion open by 1 little notch so she can breathe, grab her hobble hopping butt and hoist it back up on the stand so she doesn't choke herself out, which I'm now debating on whether or not is actually a good thing.
Grab the grain bucket and put it in front of her and allofasudden SHE'S GONE. LITERALLY.
Hobble hopping all the way back to the goat pen gate.
Big G pops his head out of the basement door and says "How's it goin' out there?"
I gave up for the night and will assess the situation in the morning. If she's THAT full I'll attempt a quick go at it...if not...she's not getting milked til 6pm dangitall....HERE ME FUDGE.....6 PM.
