I had to leave the room again - I just watched another hatch out - 2 more are trying....one of them looks like it's doing fine and the other just doesn't but I'm sure it's me. I get to thinking that they're going to get shrink wrapped - my first hatch of this year and last hatch of last year were all shrink wrapped. I was using a crappy thermometer that I now know was registering about 5* cooler than it actually was.

The other 10 babies in the "Michelob Ultra" brooder are doing very well...snuggled up next to eachother under a nice warm lamp...

SD - I turn twice a day....once around 7 am before I leave and then again around 7 pm.

Yay for babies! I wait until the chick and umbilical stuff are dry, then I snip it ( the "string") with scissors.

I never snipped any of mine, I just let it dry up and it just came off. I haven't had any problems. It's good to know that I can snip it after it's dry though. Congrats on all the chicks!

I did assist my silkie rooster George. He didn't seem strong enough to make it the last bit of the way out. So I finished his zip and he gave one last mighty kick and hatched in my hand. It was my first timing incubating eggs. We only had 4 out of 8 hatch and only 3 of those lived. All roosters. I haven't hatched again for myself since. I did do it again at school with a BYC members eggs since she was willing to take the chicks back. Almost all of them hatched overnight and the kids got to see 2 hatch the next morning. 6 out of 8 that time I think. All girls. Of course!!

So whats your grand total? I set 24 eggs, 5 were duds, 15 hatched, the other 4 didn't make it--I donlt know why, they weren't shrink wrapped. Oh well, pretty good hatch.

Whew! All I can say is that I really needed that "VACATION". You can sorta guess I don't really get on computers if I don't have to.

I didn't go anywhere - Big G still had to work so I had 3 days almost to myself.

Wed little g had a dentist appointment followed by Chuck-E-Cheese there went the day. It was fun for him at least and it was a cloudy, almost rainy day so I couldn't do much outside anyway.

Thursday little g had "bike day" at daycare and opted to go to daycare rather than stay home with me - afterall, I paid for the day whether or not he went so it actually made sense to bring him. Since he was gone I was able to get a load of hay and then rip up the rest of the garden in the front of my house. I had beach rose bushes that morphed into some heck of a monster...As I used the shovel and garden shears to rip out the hearts of the two plants and sever all life to the remaining veins (aka, roots) I heard the plants crying softly. I'll admit I took great joy in watching those hearts beat for the last time, then burn in the fire pit. I saved a few roots and replanted a bunch in a different place - somewhere that I don't care if it decides to take over. But when it was in the front of the house it gradually took residence in the lawn, spreading to the opposite side of the concrete stairs, in another perrenial garden off to the side of the house - I'm serious, this thing was alive and out to get everything. In it's place I planted some holly bushes and azaleas. It looks so much better already....I just hope I killed the beast enough so that it doesn't seek revenge on the new bushes.

I took pictures of my kill and of the hearts bleeding in the lawn...I'll put them up later on.

Friday was a shopping day. I wanted to start prepping now for the big party in June so a friend and I spent the day in the mall and at some bulk shopping stores. I got all the paper goods and a nice new outfit. My mother took little g for the afternoon and all night so Big G and I went out for dinner.

Saturday it rained rained rained...so I cleaned the house. Got some really good spring cleaning done, too. Unfortunately, I didn't get to everything, but I tackled the horrid dusting that I've put off...we have cathedral ceilings in the living room/kitchen (it's all one big room) and have beams going across - the dust had settled so much on the top of the beams that I had to use a broom to shoo it off. But, it's now done and that was something I hadn't done since the day we built the house 6 years ago!

Sunday was Easter - the Easter Bunny brought little g a nice new real basketball hoop so Big G and I spent 3 hours putting it together. Dang....that stuff is hard! But we got it done and then went to my Aunts for lunch. What a beautiful day! Warm and sunny - I even got to wear shorts and a tank top!

Chicks are doing well - I ended up with 15/29. 8 chicks came from aggeiterpkatie and 7 are from my hens. I broke open the eggs that didn't hatch and about 4 of them had viable chicks inside that died sometime during the last few days. No reason that I could see as to why they died, they just did. But the ones who did hatch are doing very well and are cute as buttons!

Now I've got 6 guinea hen eggs in the incubator. Our guineas are finally starting to lay so I grabbed a few eggs and tossed them in...we'll see what we get!
