I suggested to DH that maybe I should raise a couple turkeys for us and family. He nixed that idea. Maybe sometime in the future, after I get the Meat-Bird tractor system working I will broach the subject again.

BTW if your going to purchase a killing cone (highly suggested) like I have pictured. It done went PC and is now called a restraining cone. You should have seen the look on the girls face at the farm store when I asked her where the killing cones are. Poor girl is scarred for life!

We like fried chicken liver and gizzards, but I only save them from young chickens. Older chicken parts go for dog food.

Got to get going and get outside chores done. Got laundry to do, pies and cornbread dressing to make.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
I will be making pies and rolls today - boiling sweet potatoes also. Heading north 30 minutes to the folks place for the Thanksgiving meal.

Can't imagine the goat cheese in the squash. Now... I'd prep the squash, then sprinkle with goat cheese, cranberries, and glazed nuts. Oooh-La-La. I had cranberry sauce on top of my english muffin this morning. Tried a new recipe with orange, cinnamon, ginger, cloves. Light on the sugar. I'll be making a batch of that just to use as a jam substitute. Absolutely yummy!

A quick google search tells me that cranberry sauce can be HWB processed. So... if they are still available after today. Time to put that canning kettle back in business.

I must admit I missed a big part of thanksgiving. 2 plates full, a glass of blueberry and cranberry wine, 3 pieces of cherry pie. Macy's parade on TV and I fell asleep in the lazy boy. I woke up when my granddaughter was trying to tickle me. Because my wife was ready to go home. My wife made a pot of coffee first then ng when she walked in the door, I might need to take it intravenously. Eating off of Mr Thanksgiving, made me plum tired.

Mr Thanksgiving turned out delicious. My brother in-law came in from up north with his wife. She doesn't like turkey but she liked the burbon red turkey. She even asked for leftovers to take home but my daughter already asked me if she could take the leftover carcase home for soup. I think my daughter gave her some though.

How big was the turkey? I know they don't get as big as the Broad Breasted, but not sure how much.
