Heating My House - Options Thoughts Suggestions ?

First let me start off by saying my wife and I HATE cold! She's especially sensitive to it. It's 67 degrees in the house right now and she's freezing.
I want to add a suggestion that is not on the list.
What is your wifes basal body temapture?
If it averages much lower then the norm, 98.6, then that will explain the sensativity to the "cold".
If it is low, it can also be raised naturally, it just takes some time and patience.
They live in California--need I say more? lol!!

I know that :D
When the bodies metabolism is not working correctly and is running low, the body naturally feels cold, even when its not.

Guess that would explain why I get cold so easily. If my body temp gets up to 98.6, I'm running a fever. Normally, my body temp is around 97.

A quick update:

I've decided to stick with my old fireplace this season and will continue to evaluate options for the next season. Lots of pros and cons to burning wood, but at the end of the day, the cost in our area of acquiring firewood could be a deal breaker.

One thing that has totally got me :th and :woot is the "Upside down fire " process I read about on BYC. I gave it a try and it worked so well I blogged about it with tons of pictures:

It seems kinda crazy, but it really works!

I just went and tried it for starting the fire in my wood stove. And, it did work! At first I didn't think it was going to. The newspaper I put in all just burned w/out lighting anything else. Then, I stuck a couple of folded up sheets on top of the wood, crumpled a few more sheets up and put them on top, lit it, said good bye to my hubby and went back to check it. That was the easiest I've ever gotten it to catch. Thanks, Nifty!

I just tried it tonight and you're right - it works! Totally weird and seems just wrong to set it up that way but it worked so well. Wow. Thank you!

I just got a txt from my brother that he tried it and it worked great for him!

We've been using this method exclusively since we first tried it.
