I have a 21 year old cat we keep hoping will peacefully pass in her sleep. So far she doesn't appear to be in pain, but she is just a bag of bones at this point. Even still jumping on furniture. Plenty of appetite. Not sure where all the food is going though.

Yeh. The week before Spirit died (she was 21) I'd spent debating putting her down. Then she had a really severe seizure and that made the decision. Put her down the next day and cried like a baby all week :)

heehee now there's a subject line...
We have 4 new babies; 2 Delawares and 2 Dominiques. They're cute, they're loud, they're active. They don't like the brooder temp. Both thermometers say 94.5 but they are hiding away from it. I keep raising the lamp. Ugh, I forgot how much I hate the early days of brooding chicks. Picks soon.. as soon as they've filled the brooder with poo so it will make a nasty picture....

I hate the odor of the brooder......I don't mind the chicken coop outside but somehow the baby smell gets to me. Good thing they are so darn cute.

That they are! Having brooded ducks twice I'm not sure I'll ever complain about chicks again though. That was NASTY!!
I woke up at 4 to silence and couldn't sleep until I checked on them. They're fine. They've just calmed down since the trauma of moving again and are cheeping more quietly. the Golden is going nuts wanting to check them out. :ep
Now we are having Internet connection issues. almost every evening since we connected the computer we loseour connection on both this computer and DH's. Not sure what's up. Looks like we'll have to call for help. Grrr!

Did you get a new computer yet? Could that be the problem?

We used to always have internet issues with ONE particular company...then we switched.

I keep a bag of shavings next to my brooder and sprinkle it on top when needed, which is every day as they get bigger. It really keeps the smell down. And make sure they can never spill that water! :sick

I remember the first batch of chicks we had in the cellar. I brought my poodle (mighty chipmunk, rat, squirrel, mouse, and sparrow killer! Oh, and wild baby bunnies, too!) downstairs to show him....I sat on a chair and held him on my lap. He was so excited by all the peeping tasty snacks with chipmunk stripes that he whined and shook the entire time! I added one more barrier, another baby gate, between where he lived and where they lived, in case the two doors weren't enough.....

My 40lb girl, Morgan (Shar Pei mix....with ????) does that shake and cry thing outside the cheeper cage too. People say they feel badly for Morgan when she does that and I say "Why? It's either that or she eats the chicks - which would you prefer?"

I keep my chicks in an old rabbit cage we got at the local Agway a few years back. They stay in the basement bathroom (where the incubator is) for about a week then they head on out to the outside guinea hen house that the guineas are too good for.

Of course, a heat lamp is put out there for the little cheepers...

It seemed like that could be it but my mom was having problems last night too so I think it is the cable company. So far so good today.
Our chicks are in the spare room because the basement is not cat proof. Eventually they end up in the workshop because we can close that door. Then it's off to the garden shed (uh oh that's now the hay barn....) and then into the big coop. Remind me why we do this??
They're still alive and peeping this afternoon. Phew!
